ปัจจุบันเกษตรกรที่ประกอบอาชีพกรีดยางพาราในประเทศไทย ได้มีการแปรรูปยางพาราเป็นยางแผ่นและยางก้อนถ้วย จากการทำยางก้อนถ้วยได้ประสบปัญหามือสัมผัสกรดและใช้ระยะเวลานานในการเก็บยางก้อนถ้วย จากปัญหาดังกล่าวผู้วิจัยได้เห็นความสำคัญของการออกแบบและพัฒนาเครื่องมือแกะก้อนยาง โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อพัฒนาเครื่องมือแกะยางก้อนถ้วยให้มีประสิทธิภาพสูงขึ้น ซึ่งมีการดัดแปลงจากอุปกรณ์แกะยางก้อนถ้วย โดยมีการออกแบบการสร้างเครื่องมือ คิดหาความสะดวกและประสิทธิภาพการทำงานของเครื่องมือ
จากการปรับปรุงเครื่องมือแกะยางก้อนถ้วย ปรากฏว่า สามารถแกะยางก้อนถ้วยได้เฉลี่ยถ้วยละ 0.33 นาที ซึ่งใช้ระยะเวลาน้อยกว่าเครื่องมือแบบเดิม จากการประเมินความพึงพอใจของชาวเกษตรกรพบว่า ระยะเวลาในการเก็บยางก้อนถ้วยโดยเครื่องมือแกะยางก้อนถ้วยมีระดับความพึงพอใจที่ 4.40 อยู่ในเกณฑ์ดีมาก ง่ายต่อการเก็บรักษามีระดับความพึงพอใจที่ 4.25 อยู่ในเกณฑ์ดีมาก ง่ายต่อการพกพามีระดับความพึงพอใจที่ 4.00 อยู่ในเกณฑ์ดี และ ความสะดวกในการใช้งานมีระดับความพึงพอใจที่ 3.95 อยู่ในเกณฑ์ดี ความพึงพอใจของเกษตรกรต่อเครื่องมือแกะยางก้อนถ้วยอยู่ในระดับความพึงพอใจที่ 4.15 อยู่ในเกณฑ์ดีมาก
