ประวัติกรมการบินพลเรือน
การบินเริ่มเข้ามามีบทบาทในประเทศไทยตั้งแต่สมัยที่เรายังใช้ช้างเป็นพาหนะสำคัญในการขนส่งทางบก และมีเรือพายเรือแจวแล่นลอยเต็มลำน้ำลำคลอง ซึ่งตรงกับรัชสมัยพระบาทสมเด็จพระมงกุฎเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว (รัชกาลที่ 6) โดยมีนักบินชาวเบลเยี่ยมคือ นายวัลเดน เบอร์น (Vanden Born) ได้นำเครื่องบินแบบออร์วิลล์ ไรท์ (Orwille Wright) มาสาธิตการบินถวายให้ทอดพระเนตร และให้ประชาชนในกรุงเทพฯ ชม เมื่อวันที่ 6 กันยายน พ.ศ. 2454 ณ สนามราชกรีฑาสโมสร ปทุมวัน นับเป็นเครื่องบินลำแรกที่บินเข้ามาในราชอาณาจักร โดย นายพลตรีพระเจ้าน้องยาเธอ กรมหมื่นกำแพงเพชรอัครโยธิน (พลเอก พระเจ้าบรมวงศ์เธอ กรมพระกำแพงเพชรอัครโยธิน) ผู้บัญชาการกองพลที่ 1 รักษาพระองค์ และจเรทหารช่างแห่งกองทัพบก ได้ทรงเป็นผู้โดยสารที่ขึ้นบินทดลองชุดแรก เมื่อเสร็จการแสดงแล้วได้ทรงซื้อเครืองบินนั้นไว้เพื่อประโยชน์แก่การศึกษา และในปี พ.ศ. 2454 นั้นเอง กระทรวงกลาโหม ได้ส่งนายทหารไทย 3 นาย ไปศึกษาวิชาการบิน ณ ประเทศฝรั่งเศส เมืองวันที่ 28 กุมภาพันธ์ พ.ศ. 2454 ได้แก่
