การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการอ่านออกเสียงพยัญชนะควบกล้ำท้ายคำสองเสียงภาษาอังกฤษของนักศึกษาหลักสูตรศิลปศาสตร์บัณฑิต ชั้นปีที่ 3 สาขาวิชาภาษาอังกฤษ และศึกษาปัญหาการอ่านออกเสียงพยัญชนะควบกล้ำท้ายคำสองเสียงภาษาอังกฤษ
ประชากรและกลุ่มตัวอย่างในการวิจัยครั้งนี้ได้แก่ นักศึกษาหลักสูตรศิลปศาสตร์บัณฑิต ชั้นปีที่ 3 สาขาวิชาภาษาอังกฤษ เป็นจำนวน 53 คน และกำหนดกลุ่มตัวอย่างโดยใช้เกรดเฉลี่ยในรายวิชาสัทศาสตร์เป็นเกณฑ์ในการกำหนดกลุ่มตัวอย่าง โดยแบ่งเป็นเกรดเฉลี่ย C เป็นจำนวน 6 คน และเกรดเฉลี่ย C+ เป็นจำนวน 6 คน
เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยคือบทความภาษาอังกฤษที่มีพยัญชนะควบกล้ำท้ายคำสองเสียงอยู่ในบทความโดยมีจำนวน 12 คำ ที่อยู่ในบทความนั้น เก็บข้อมูลโดยวิธีบันทึกเสียง แล้วนำมาวิเคราะห์เพื่อศึกษาการอ่านออกเสียงพยัญชนะควบกล้ำท้ายคำสองเสียงภาษาอังกฤษหาและปัญหาของการอ่านออกเสียงพยัญชนะควบกล้ำท้ายคำสองเสียงภาษาอังกฤษ วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้วิธีหาค่าร้อยละ
ผลการวิจัยพบว่า
1. จากการศึกษาการอ่านออกเสียงพยัญชนะควบกล้ำท้ายคำสองเสียงภาษาอังกฤษพบว่านักศึกษาที่มีเกรดเฉลี่ย C คิดเป็นร้อยละ 43.06 อ่านออกเสียงได้ถูกต้องมากกว่านักศึกษาที่มีเกรดเฉลี่ย C+ ที่คิดเป็นร้อยละ 36.11
2. จากการศึกษาการอ่านออกเสียงพยัญชนะควบกล้ำท้ายคำสองเสียงภาษาอังกฤษคณะผู้วิจัยได้พบว่า นักศึกษาที่มีเกรดเฉลี่ย C และ C+ มีปัญหาที่พบมากที่สุดคือ การไม่อ่านออกเสียงคำควบกล้ำท้ายคำสองเสียง
