วัดราชบูรณะตั้งอยู่ที่ตำบลท่าวาสุกรี อำเภอพระนครศรีอยุธยา(กรุงเก่า) จังหวัดพระนครศรีอยุธยา บริเวณเชิงสะพานป่าถ่าน ทางด้านทิศเหนือของวัดมหาธาตุ และห่างจากพระราชวังโบราณเพียงเล็กน้อย วัดราชบูรณะมีฐานะเป็นพระอารามหลวงในสมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยาอีกแห่งหนึ่ง จัดเป็นหนึ่งในวัดที่ใหญ่และมีความเก่าแก่ที่สุดในพระนครศรีอยุธยา ตามพระราชพงศาวดารปรากฏว่าวัดราชบูรณะสร้างขึ้นในรัชสมัยของสมเด็จพระบรมราชาธิราชที่ 2 หรือเจ้าสามพระยา โปรดเกล้าฯให้สร้างขึ้นเมื่อปีพุทธศักราช 1967 ณ บริเวณถวายพระเพลิงพระเจ้าอ้ายพระยากับเจ้ายี่พระยา พระเชษฐาธิราชทั้ง 2 พระองค์ ซึ่งชนช้างกันจนถึงแก่พิราลัย จึงโปรดเกล้าฯให้ก่อเจดีย์ 2 องค์ขึ้นบริเวณนั้น และพระราชทานนามว่า เจดีย์เจ้าอ้ายพระยาเจ้ายี่พระยา
สิ่งหนึ่งที่น่าสนใจเกี่ยวกับวัดราชบูรณะคือห้องกรุ สถานที่เคยเก็บสมบัติล้ำค่าไว้มากมาย ราวปี พ.ศ. 2499-2500 นักลักลอบขุดกรุพระได้ทะลวงองค์พระปรางค์เข้าไปขนเอาสมบัติภายในกรุไปเป็นจำนวนมากหมายร้อยชิ้น รวมทั้งพระพิมพ์เนื้อชินจำนวนหนึ่ง จนกระทั่งในเดือนกันยายน พ.ศ. 2500 กรมศิลปากรได้เปิดกรุองค์ปรางค์วัดราชบูรณะ และจากการเปิดกรุครั้งนี้ ได้สร้างความตะลึงพรึงเพริดให้แก่ทั้งเจ้าหน้าที่กรมศิลปากรและประชาชนชาวไทยทั่วไป เนื่องจากได้พบพระบรมสารีริกธาตุ พระแสงขันธ์ มงกุฎ ฉลองพระองค์ทองคำ พระพุทธรูปต่างๆ พระแก้ว พระทองคำ พระนาก เครื่องราชูโภคทองคำ และพระพิมพ์จำนวนมาก กว่าแสนองค์ในนกรุปรางค์ ต่อมากรมศิลปากรได้เปิดให้ประชาชนเช่าไปบูชาเพื่อนำเงินส่วนหนึ่งมาสร้างพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติเจ้าสามพระยาในวโรกาสที่พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว และสมเด็จพระนางเจ้าฯ พระบรมราชินีนาถ เสด็จพระราชดำเนินมาทอดพระเนตรโบราณวัตถุที่พบจากกรุพระปรางค์ วัดราชบูรณะ ตั้งอยู่ที่ตำบลประตูชัย ถนนปรีดีพนมยงค์ และนำสิ่งของที่ได้จากกรุมาเก็บรักษาไว้ในห้องราชบูรณะ ในพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งดังกล่าว
