มัลติมีเดียสามารถจำแนกองค์ประกอบของสื่อต่างๆ ได้เป็น 5 ชนิด
1. ข้อความหรือตัวอักษร (Text)
ข้อความหรือตัวอักษรถือว่าเป็นองค์ประกอบพื้นฐานที่สำคัญของมัลติมีเดีย ระบบมัลติมีเดียที่นำเสนอผ่านจอภาพของเครื่องคอมพิวเตอร์ นอกจากจะมีรูปแบบและสีของตัวอักษรให้เลือกมากมายตามความต้องการแล้วยังสามารถกำหนดลักษณะของการปฏิสัมพันธ์(โต้ตอบ)ในระหว่างการนำเสนอได้อีกด้วย

2. ภาพนิ่ง (Still Image)
