ในช่วงรอบปีที่ผ่านมานั้นสื่อสารมวลชนหลายแขนงเริ่มนำข่าวสารเรื่องประชาคมอาเซียนมาเผยแพร่ให้สังคมตื่นตัวเพิ่มมากขึ้น ถ้านับระยะเวลาโดยประมาณก็เหลือเวลาอีกประมาณ 2 ปีเท่านั้นที่ประเทศเราต้องเข้าสู่ประชาคมอาเซียนอย่างเต็มรูปแบบ ในปี 2558 สมาคมอาเซียนเริ่มก่อตั้งเมื่อ 8 สิงหาคม 2510 โดยเริ่มแรกมีสมาชิก 5 ประเทศ และได้ขยายสมาชิกขึ้นมาตามลำดับจนครบ 10 ประเทศ เมื่อ 2542 ตลอดระยะเวลากว่า 40 ปีที่ผ่านมา อาเซียนได้มีการพัฒนาตามลำดับ ได้เกิดความร่วมมือเพื่อสร้างความเข้มแข็ง ร่วมมือด้านความมั่นคงของประเทศสมาชิก โดยมี 3 เสาหลัก ได้แก่ ความร่วมมือทางเศรษฐกิจ ความร่วมมือทางการเมืองและความมั่นคง และความร่วมมือทางสังคมและวัฒนธรรม 40 ปีที่ผ่านมา ประเทศไทยได้ประโยชน์หลายอย่างจากอาเซียนทั้งในเรื่องเสริมสร้างความมั่นคงทางเศรษฐกิจ เส้นทางคมนาคม ระบบไฟฟ้า และยังช่วยเพิ่มโอกาสทางการค้าและการลงทุนให้กับประเทศไทยอีกด้วย
