2. อันดับเลขคณิต (Arithmetic Sequence หรือ Arithmetic Progression) คือ เป็นอันดับที่มีผลต่างระหว่างพจน์ใด ๆ กับพจน์ที่อยู่ก่อนหน้าเป็นจำนวนคงที่เสมอ ค่าคงที่ดังกล่าวเรียกว่า ผลต่างร่วม (Common Difference) เขียนแทนด้วย d และเขียนแทนอันดับเลขคณิต ด้วย A.P.
อันดับเลขคณิตอยู่ในรูปทั่วไป ดังนี้
a , a + d , a + 2d , a + 3d , …
หาเทอมที่ n ได้จากสูตร Tn = a + (n – 1)d
โดยมีผลต่างร่วม คือ d = T2 – T1 = T3 – T2 = ..... = Tn – Tn-1
ตัวอย่างที่ 1 จงหา Tn ของ –5, -1, 3, 7, ....
d = -1 – (-5) = 3 – (-1 ) = 7 – 3 = 4
จากสูตร Tn = a + (n – 1)d
= -5 + (n – 1)(4)
= 4n – 9
ตัวอย่างที่ 2 จงหาอันดับเลขคณิตที่มี Tn = 2n + 4
T1 = 2(1) + 4 = 6
T2 = 2(2) + 4 = 8
T3 = 2(3) + 4 = 10
T4 = 2(4) + 4 = 12
อันดับเลขคณิต คือ 6, 8, 10, 12,....
