ส่วนในประเทศไทย ได้เริ่มมีการจัดการบริหารแรงงาน ขึ้นในปี พ.ศ. 2475 ซึ่งเป็นการ จัดสรร และ พัฒนาแรงงาน คุ้มครองดูแลสภาพการทำงาน สร้างรากฐาน กระบวนการส่งเสริม ความสัมพันธ์ ระหว่าง นายจ้างและลูกจ้าง ในวันที่ 20 เมษายน พ.ศ.2499 คณะกรรมการการจัดงาน ที่ระลึกแรงงาน ได้มีการจัดประชุมขึ้น และมีความเห็นว่า ควรกำหนด วันที่ 1พฤษภาคม เป็นวันระลึกวันแรงงานไทย จึงได้มีหนังสือถึง นายกรัฐมนตรี ขอให้ทางราชการรับรอง วันที่ 1 พฤษภาคม เป็นวันกรรมกรแห่งชาติ และต่อมาได้เปลี่ยนเป็นวันแรงงานแห่งชาติ
ต่อมารัฐบาลไทยขยายกิจการ ด้านแรงงานสัมพันธ์มากขึ้น และได้มีการประกาศใช้ พระราชบัญญัติ กำหนดวิธีระงับข้อพิพาทแรงงานปี พ.ศ. 2500 ได้มีพระราชบัญญัต ิแรงงานให้ ลูกจ้างมีสิทธิหยุดงาน ประจำปี ในวันแรงงานแห่งชาติ คือวันที่ 1 พฤษภาคม
