๒. ความดำริชอบ (สัมมาสังกัปปะ) หมายถึง ความคิดชอบ เช่น มีความคิดหาหนทางที่จะหลีกออกจากกาม ไม่ลุ่มหลงมัวเมาอยู่กับ รูป เสียง กลิ่น รส สัมผัส มีความคิดที่จะไม่พยาบาทปองร้ายผู้อื่น และไม่คิดทำร้ายเบียดเบียนผู้อื่น
๓. การพูดชอบ (สัมมาวาจา) หมายถึง เว้นจากการพูดเท็จ เว้นจากการพูดส่อเสียดเว้นจากการพูดคำหยาบ และเว้นจากการพูดเพ้อเจ้อเหลวไหลไร้สาระ
๔. การกระทำชอบ (สัมมกัมมันตะ) หมายถึง เว้นจากการฆ่าสัตว์ เว้นจากการลักทรัพย์ เว้นจากการประพฤติผิดในกาม
๕. การเลี้ยงชีวิตชอบ (สัมมาอาชีวะ) หมายถึง มีความเพียรระวังไม่ผิดกฎหมายและศีลธรรม
๖. ควรเพียรชอบ (สัมมาวายามะ) หมายถึง มีความเพียรระวังไม่ให้ความชั่วเกิดขึ้นในตน เพียรละความชั่วที่เกิดขึ้นแล้วให้หมดไป พากเพียรทำความดีให้เกิดขึ้น และเพียรพยายามรักษาความดีทีมีอยู่แล้วให้คงอยู่
๗. ความระลึกชอบ (สัมมาสติ) หมายถึง ความมีสติระลึกถึงความเป็นไปได้ของสภาพร่างกาย ระลึกถึงความเป็นไปของเวทนา (ขณะมีอารมณ์) ว่าเป็นสุข เป็นทุกข์ หรือเฉยๆ ระลึกถึงความเป็นไปของจิตว่าเศร้าหมองเพราะกิเลสชนิดใด จิตที่ผ่องใสเพราะเหตุใด รวมไปถึงการระลึกถึงความดี ความชั่ว หรือความไม่ดีไม่ชั่วที่เกิดขึ้นในจิตของตน
