การวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อวิเคราะห์ผลกระทบจากการใช้แรงงานข้ามชาติชาวไทใหญ่ต่อแรงงานไทย กรณีศึกษา : ชุมชนป่าเป้า อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดเชียงใหม่ ซึ่งมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อการศึกษา 1. เพื่อศึกษาถึงสาเหตุที่ทำให้นายจ้างเลือกจ้างแรงงานข้ามชาติชาวไทใหญ่ ในชุมชนป่าเป้า อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดเชียงใหม่
2. เพื่อศึกษาถึงผลที่เกิดจากการจ้างแรงงานข้ามชาติชาวไทใหญ่ของผู้ประกอบกิจการต่อแรงงานไทยในชุมชนป่าเป้า อำเภอเมือง จังหวัดเชียงใหม่ โดยเก็บข้อมูลเชิงคุณภาพจากการสัมภาษณ์และสังเกตการณ์ อีกทั้งยังใช้ข้อมูลเอกสาร มีการค้นคว้าข้อมูลจากสำนักหอสมุด และเอกสารวิจัยที่เกี่ยวข้อง เป็นต้น
ซึ่งผลการศึกษา สรุปได้ดังนี้ 1) เหตุผลที่ทำให้ผู้ประกอบการจ้างแรงงานข้ามชาติชาวไทใหญ่ มากกว่าแรงงานไทย เพราะการจ้างแรงงานไทยนั้นมีข้อจำกัดที่มากกว่าแรงงานข้ามชาติ เนื่องจากค่าจ้างแรงงานข้ามชาตินั้นมีราคาถูก และ ด้านพฤติกรรมของแรงงานข้ามชาตินั้น มีความสนใจต่อผู้ประกอบการเป็นอย่างมาก อีกทั้งเรื่องของความอดทนและความขยัน มุ่งมานะ ไม่เลือกงาน ตั้งใจทำงานกับสิ่งที่ได้มอบหมาย มากกว่าแรงงานไทย ที่เลือกงาน รักความสบาย ไม่ค่อยตั้งใจทำงาน อีกทั้งยังเกียจค้านและไม่ทำงานในระดับล่างที่สกปรก จึงเป็นสาเหตุที่สำคัญที่ทำให้ผู้ประกอบการเลือกที่จะจ้างแรงงานข้ามชาติมากกว่าแรงงานไทย 2) ผลที่เกิดจากการจ้างแรงงานข้ามชาติชาวไทใหญ่ของผู้ประกอบกิจการต่อแรงงานไทย พบว่า แรงงานไทยได้รับผลกระทบด้านการมีงานทำ รายได้และความมั่นคงในงาน และผลกระทบทางด้านสังคมและจิตวิทยา โดยผลกระทบค่อนข้างมากที่ได้รับนั้น ได้แก่ การมีคดีอาชญากรรม และปัญหายาเสพติด เพิ่มขึ้นในพื้นที่มีแรงงานข้ามชาติอาศัยหรือทำงานมากขึ้น ทั้งเรื่องความไม่ปลอดภัยในชีวิตและทรัพย์สิน อีกทั้งทำให้รายได้ลดลงและไม่เพียงพอต่อค่าใช้จ่าย และค่าครองชีพ ดังนั้นล้วนเป็นสาเหตุและผลที่เกิดขึ้นจากการที่ผู้ประกอบกิจการมีแนวโน้มที่จะจ้างแรงงานข้ามชาติเพิ่มขึ้นและจ้างแรงงานคนไทยน้อยลง
