• ตั้งแต่วันที่ 6 พ.ค. 2554 คณะรัฐมนตรีจีนได้อนุมัติ“ยุทธศาสตร์ หัวสะพาน” ซึ่งเป็นยุทธศาสตร์ระดับประเทศเพื่อให้ยูนนานเป็น ประตูทางภาคตะวันตกเฉียงใต้ของจีนที่เปิดสู่เอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ และเอเชียใต้ โดยยูนนานเน้นการพัฒนาโครงข่ายเชื่อมโยงทาง คมนาคมกับมณฑลตอนในและกับภูมิภาค ทั้งเส้นทางถนน และ เส้นทางรถไฟ รวมถึงโครงสร้างพื้นฐานรองรับการเชื่อมโยง อาทิ เขตโลจิสติกส์เขตเศรษฐกิจบริเวณชายแดน โดยใช้ประโยชน์จาก การมีชายแดนติดกับประเทศเพื่อนบ้านถึง 3 ประเทศ คือ ลาว พม่า และเวียดนาม ซึ่งจะทำ ให้การคมนาคมขนส่งสินค้า การค้า ชายแดน และการค้าระหว่างประเทศเพิ่มมากขึ้น เป็นโอกาสของ นักลงทุนที่จะเข้ามาใช้ยูนนานเป็นฐานการผลิตและกระจายสินค้า ในจีน
• ไทยกับยูนนานมีเส้นทางเชื่อมโยงทางคมนาคมที่สะดวกรวดเร็ว อาทิ เส้นทาง R3A ซึ่งจะสะดวกรวดเร็วมากยิ่งขึ้นเมื่อสะพาน ข้ามแม่น้ำ โขงแห่งที่ 4 (เชียงราย – ห้วยทราย (ลาว)) แล้วเสร็จ และเส้นทางรถไฟตามแนวระเบียงเศรษฐกิจเหนือ-ใต้ที่จะเกิดขึ้น ในอนาคต รวมถึงเส้นทางแม่น้ำ โขงซึ่งไทยได้เปิดใช้ท่าเรือเชียงแสน แห่งที่ 2 รองรับการขนส่งสินค้ากับท่าเรือกวนเหล่ยของยูนนานแล้ว
