มีความจริงอยู่ 4 ประการคือ การมีอยู่ของทุกข์ เหตุแห่งทุกข์ ความดับทุกข์ และ หนทางไปสู่ความดับทุกข์ ความจริงเหล่านี้เรียกว่า อริยสัจ 4

1. ทุกข์
คือ การมีอยู่ของทุกข์ เกิด แก่ เจ็บ และตายล้วนเป็นทุกข์ ความเศร้าโศก ความโกรธ ความอิจฉาริษยา ความวิตกกังวล ความกลัวและความผิดหวังล้วนเป็น ทุกข์ การพลัดพรากจากของที่รักก็เป็นทุกข์ ความเกลียดก็เป็นทุกข์ ความอยาก ความยึดมั่นถือมั่น ความยึดติดในขันธ์ทั้ง 5 ล้วนเป็นทุกข์

2. สมุทัย
คือ เหตุแห่งทุกข์ เพราะอวิชา ผู้คนจึงไม่สามารถเห็นความจริงของชีวิต พวกเขาตกอยู่ในเปลวเพลิงแห่งตัณหา ความโกรธ ความอิจฉาริษยา ความเศร้าโศก ความวิตกกังวล ความกลัว และความผิดหวัง
