วันนี้ ( 17 เมษายน 2552) ที่อ่าวต้นไทร ต.อ่าวนาง อ.เมือง จ.กระบี่ นายศิวะ ศิริเสาวลักษณ์ ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดกระบี่ เป็นประธานการเปิดงานการแข่งขัน ปีนผานานาชาติ 2009 หรือ Krabi International Rock Climbing & Thailand Bouldering Asia Cup Fire Contest 2009” ซึ่งจังหวัดกระบี่ร่วมกับอบจ.กระบี่ สมาคมธุรกิจธุรกิจการท่องเที่ยวจังหวัดกระบี่ ททท.สำนักงานกระบี่ และชมรมปีนหน้าผาไร่แลย์ ได้ร่วมกันจัดขึ้น

ทั้งนี้ มีนายชัยวุฒิ พุฒทอง นายกสมาคมปีนหน้าผ้าแห่งประเทศไทย เป็นผู้กล่าวรายงาน ท่ามกลางนักปีนผา นักควงไฟทั้งชาวไทยและนานาชาติ จาก 11 ประเทศ ที่ร่วมลงแข่งขันทั้งประเภทบุคคลและประเภททีม กว่า 100 คน เช่น อเมริกา ออสเตรเลีย ไทย มาเลเซีย ฟิลิปปินส์ ไทเป สวีเดน สิงคโปร์ มาเลเซีย เข้าร่วม

งานจัดขึ้นระหว่างวันที่ 17 – 19 เมษายน 2552 ที่บริเวณ อ่าวต้นไทร หาดอ่าวไร่เลย์ และ เกาะปอดะ ต.อ่าวนาง โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อส่งเสริมให้กิจกรรมการแข่งขันปีนหน้าผาเป็นหนึ่งในกิจกรรมทางการท่องเที่ยวประจำปีของจังหวัดกระบี่ และเป็นการนำเสนอภาพลักษณ์จังหวัดกระบี่ เป็น Rock Climbing Destination ซึ่งเป็นที่รู้จักกันในหมู่นักปีนหน้าผาว่าหากนึกถึงการปีนผาต้องไปปีนที่จังหวัดกระบี่ เนื่องจากมีหน้าผาที่สวยงามติดอันดับโลก มีธรรมชาติที่สวยงามและมีสิ่งอำนวยความสะดวกทางการท่องเที่ยวครบครัน มีเส้นทางปีนผากว่า 600 เส้นทาง นักปีนผาสามารถเลือกปีนได้ตามระดับความยากง่าย และความท้าทายที่ต้องการ
