ประวัติ
พันเอก พระยาพหลพลพยุหเสนา ชื่อเดิมว่า "พจน์ พหลโยธิน" เกิดเมื่อวันที่ 29 มีนาคม 2430 เวลา 03.30 น. ณ บ้านหน้าวัดราชบูรณะ จังหวัดพระนคร เป็นบุตรของพันเอก พระยาพหลพลพยุหเสนา (ถิ่น พหลโยธิน) กับคุณหญิงจับ สมรสกับคนผู้หญิงบุญหลง พหลพลพยุหเสนา
เริ่มการศึกษาชั้นประถมศึกษาที่โรงเรียนวัดจักรวรรดิราชาวาส (วัดสามปลื้ม) และย้ายไปศึกษาต่อที่โรงเรียนสุขุมาลวิทยาลัย จนกระทั่งเข้าศึกษาต่อที่โรงเรียนนายร้อยทหารบก ต่อมาเมื่ออายุ 16 ปี ได้รับทุนรัฐบาลไปศึกษาต่อที่โรงเรียนนายร้อยทหารบกในเมืองโกรสลิสเตอร์ เฟล เด ประเทศ เยอรมันนี ศึกษาอยู่ 3 ปี ต่อจากนั้นได้เข้าประจำอยู่ในกองทัพบกเยอรมัน สังกัดกรมทหารปืนใหญ่ที่ 4 ในปี พ.ศ.2455 ได้เดินทางไปศึกษาต่อวิชาช่างแสงที่ประเทศเดนมาร์ก เรียนได้ปีเดียวก็ถูกเรียกตัวกลับเนื่องจากเงินทุนการศึกษาไม่เพียงพอ

พระยาพหลพลพยุหเสนาเข้ารับราชการครั้งแรกประจำกรมทหารปืนใหญ่ที่ 4 จังหวัดราชบุรี อีกสามปีต่อมาได้เข้าประจำกรมทหารปืนใหญ่ บางซื่อ พระนคร และในปี พ.ศ.2460 ได้ย้ายไปเป็นผู้บังคับการกรมทหารปืนใหญ่ที่ 9 จังหวัดฉะเชิงเทรา ในชีวิตราชการนั้นได้รับพระราชทานบรรดาศักดิ์เป็นหลวงและพระตามลำดับในราชทินนามเดียวกันว่า " สรายุทธสรสิทธิ์" และได้ เลื่อนยศทางทหารมาตามลำดับ กระทั่งได้เป็น พันเอก เมื่อวันที่ ๑ เมษายน ๒๔๗๑
เมื่อวันที่ 20 พฤษภาคม 2471 มีพระบรมราชโองการโปรดเกล้าฯ ให้เป็นองครักษ์เวร และเมื่อวันที่ 6 พฤศจิกายน 2474 ทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ เลื่อนบรรดาศักดิ์เป็นพระยาพหลพลพยุหเสนา มีราชทินนามเดียวกับบิดา
เมื่อวันที่ 24 มิถุนายน 2475 ได้ร่วมกับคณะราษฏรโดยเป็นหัวหน้าคณะราษฎรทำการ ยึดอำนาจเปลี่ยนแปลงการปกครอง จากระบอบสมบูรณาญาสิทธิราชย์ มาเป็นระบอบประชาธิปไตย มีรัฐธรรมนูญเป็นกฎหมายสูงสุด
พันเอก พระยาพหลพลพยุหเสนา ดำรงตำแหน่งนายกรัฐมนตรีเมื่อวันที่ 21 มิถุนายน 2476 โดยการทำรัฐประหารรัฐบาลของพระยามโนปกรณ์นิติธาดาตลอดระยะเวลาที่บริหารประเทศ ต้องเผชิญปัญหานานัปการ จนต้องลาออกจากตำแหน่งหลายครั้ง และได้มีพระบรมราชโองการโปรดเกล้าฯ แต่งตั้งให้กลับเข้ามาดำรงตำแหน่งใหม่ ในที่สุดเมื่อวันที่ 11 กันยายน 2481 พระยาพหลพลพยุหเสนา ได้ตัดสินใจยุบสภาและลาออกจากตำแหน่งนายกรัฐมนตรี แต่ถึงแม้พันเอก พระยาพหลพลพยุหเสนาจะวางมือจากตำแหน่งสูงสุดทางการเมืองแล้ว ในระหว่างสงครามโลกครั้งที่ 2 คนได้ดำรงตำแหน่งแม่ทัพใหญ่ และได้รับยศ พลเอก พระยาพหลพลพยุหเสนา
