ฉากเป็นองค์ประกอบหนึ่งของภาพยนตร์ เนื่องจากการเล่าเรื่องในภาพยนตร์คือการถ่ายทอดเหตุการณ์ที่ต่อเนื่องกัน และเหตุการณ์ต่างๆจะเกิดขึ้นโดยปราศจากสถานที่ไม่ได้ ดังนั้นฉากจึงมีความสำคัญ เพราะทำให้มีสถานที่รองรับเหตุการณ์ต่างๆของเรื่อง ฉากแบ่งออกเป็น 5 ประเภท ดังนี้
1. ฉากที่เป็นธรรมชาติ ได้แก่ สภาพแวดล้อมธรรมชาติที่แวดล้อมตัวละคร เช่น ป่าไม้ ทุ่งหญ้า ลำธาร หรือบรรยากาศค่ำเช้าในแต่ละวัน
2. ฉากที่เป็นสิ่งประดิษฐ์ ได้แก่ ที่อยู่อาศัย ยานพาหนะ หรือสิ่งประดิษฐ์ต่างๆที่มนุษย์มีไว้เพื่อใช้สอย
3. ฉากที่เป็นช่วงเวลาหรือยุคสมัย ได้แก่ ยุดสมัย หรือช่วงเวลาที่เกิดเหตุการณ์ตามท้องเรื่อง
4. ฉากที่เป็นการดำเนินชีวิตของตัวละคร หมายถึง สภาพแบบแผนหรือกิจวัตรประจำวันของตัวละคร ของชุมชน หรือท้องถิ่นที่ตัวละครอาศัยอยู่
5. ฉากที่เป็นสภาพแวดล้อมเชิงนามธรรม หมายถึงสภาพแวดล้อมที่จับต้องไม่ได้แต่มีลักษณะเป็นความเชื่อ หรือความคิดของคน เช่น ค่านิยม ธรรมเนียม ประเพณี เป็นต้น

มุมมองในการเล่าเรื่อง (Point of view)
คือ การมองเหตุการณ์ การเข้าใจพฤติกรรมของตัวละครใดตัวหนึ่ง หรือหมายถึงการที่ผู้เล่ามองเหตุการณ์จากวงในใกล้ชิด หรือจากวงนอกในระยะห่างๆ ซึ่งแต่ละจุดยืนมีความน่าเชื่อถือแตกต่างกัน จุดยืนในการเล่าเรื่องมีความสำคัญต่อการเล่าเรื่องอย่างยิ่ง เพราะจุดยืนจะมีผลต่อความรู้สึกของผู้ชม และมีผลต่อการชักจูงอารมณ์ มุมมองในการเล่าเรื่องแบ่งออกเป็น 4 ประเภท ดังนี้
1. เล่าเรื่องจากจุดยืนบุคคลที่หนึ่ง (The First-Person Narrator) คือ การที่ตัวละครเอกของเรื่องเป็นผู้เล่าเรื่องเอง ข้อสังเกตในการเล่าเรื่องนี้คือ ตัวละครหลักเป็นผู้เล่าเองทำให้ใกล้ชิดกับเหตุการณ์ แต่มีข้อเสียตรงเป็นการเล่าเรื่องที่อาจมีอคติปะปนอยู่ด้วย การเล่าเรื่องในจุดยืนบุคคลที่หนึ่งพบได้บ่อยในภาพยนตร์นักสืบ และภาพยนตร์อัตชีวประวัติ
