1.  ถ้าเป็นกริยาสำคัญในประโยค  มีความหมายว่า  เป็น  อยู่  คือ
     - He is a doctor. (เขาเป็นหมอ)
     - They are here. (พวกเขาอยู่ที่นี่)
     - She is John’s mother. (หล่อนคือแม่ของจอห์น)
2. ใช้กับ Nouns และ Pronouns เช่น
     - Jack and Jill are cousins. (แจ๊คและจิลเป็นลูกพี่ลูกน้อง)
     - That puppy is Mam’s. (ลูกสุนัขตัวนั้นเป็นของแหม่ม)
     - They are Thai boxers. (เขาทั้งหลายเป็นนักมวยไทย)
3. ใช้กับ Adjectives และ Adverbs เช่น
     - My uncle is a kind man. (ลุงของฉันเป็นคนใจดี)
     - People in the hall are friendly. (ผู้คนในห้องประชุมเป็นมิตรกัน)
     - The tortoise is walking slowly. (เต่าเดินอย่างเชื่องช้า)
4. ใช้กับ Prepositions เช่น
     - The red bag is on the floor. (กระเป๋าสีแดงอยู่บนพื้น)
     - The patients are in the hospital. (คนไข้อยู่ในโรงพยาบาล)
     - The cat is under the tree. (แมวอยู่ใต้ต้นไม้)
5. ใช้กับประโยค Continuous Tense เช่น
     - They are riding their bicycles. (เขาทั้งหลายกำลังขี่จักรยานของเขา)
     - Teacher is writhing on the board. (ครูกำลังเขียนบนกระดาน)
     - She is playing basketball. (หล่อนกำลังเล่นบาสเกตบอล)
