           ในสมัยรัชกาลที่ ๔ มีคำยืมภาษาอังกฤษปรากฏมากขึ้นในเอกสารประเภทจดหมายเหตุ พระราชหัตถเลขา  พงศาวดาร และคำสามัญ  คำเรียกเครื่องมือเครื่องใช้ เรียกทะเลมหาสมุทรก็มากขึ้นด้วย  
            สมัยรัชกาลที่ ๕ ภาษาอังกฤษขยายวงกว้างออกไปสู่ประชาชน เพราะมีโรงเรียนสอนภาษาอังกฤษและวิชาการต่าง ๆ มีศัพท์ทางวิทยาศาสตร์ พฤกษศาตร์ สัตวศาสตร์เกิดขึ้นมากมาย
            หลังสงครามโลกครั้งที่ ๒  คำยืมภาษาอังกฤษหลั่งไหลเข้ามาในภาไทยอย่างกว้างขวาง  เพราะมีนักเรียนไทยไปเรียนศึกษาในประเทศแถบยุโรป และอเมริกา การเดินทางระหว่างประเทศ  การสื่อสาร การติดต่อค้าขาย และการขยายตัวของอุตสาหกรรมการค้าในโลก  ตลอดทั้งการรับเอาวัฒนธรรมตะวันตกด้านต่าง ๆเช่นด้านบันเทิง กีฬา  แฟชั่น การแต่งกาย เป็นไปอย่างรวดเร็ว ในโลกยุคโลกาภิวัตน์ ภาษาอังกฤษเข้ามามีอิทธิพลต่อภาษาไทยเป็นอย่างมาก  เรานำมาใช้ในชีวิตประจำวันมากขึ้น เรามีคำยืมภาษาอังกฤษทุกรูปแบบ  ทั้งคำทับศัพท์  คำแปลศัพท์ และศัพท์บัญญัติ  การยืมคำภาษอังกฤษมาใช้ในภาษาไทยช่วยเปิดและขยายโลกทัศน์ด้านวิชาการ  เศรษฐกิจ  เทคโนโลยี และวัตถุนิยมแก่คนไทย ทำให้เกิดค่านิยมใหม่ว่า  “ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาของผู้มีการศึกษา มีความทันสมัย และอยู่ในสงคมชั้นสูง”
