Past continuous (พาสทฺ คอนทินิวเอิส) หมายถึง “อดีตกาลกำลังกระทำ” มีรูปกริยาคือ was/were + verbing ดังนี้
รูปของ Past continuous
(1) Statement form (สเตทเม้นทฺ ฟอม) หรือในภาษาไทยเรียกว่า “รูป บอกเล่า” ประกอบด้วย
ภาคประธาน + was/were + กริยาแท้เติม ing + ภาคกรรมหรือส่วนขยาย
อธิบาย was ใช้หลังภาคประธานที่เป็นสรรพนาม He, She, It หรือภาค ประธานที่เป็นคำนามเอกพจน์ เช่น Paul, Our daughter, The telephone,… ฯลฯ
were ใช้หลังภาคประธานที่เป็นสรรพนาม I, We, You, They หรือภาค ประธานที่เป็นคำนามพหูพจน์ เช่น The children, Paul and Pat, Parents,… ฯลฯ

We were walking in the park when it rained.
