ความเป็นมาของวันพ่อแห่งชาติ 5 ธันวาคมของทุกปีเป็นวันที่ปวงชนชาวไทยพร้อมใจกันถวายพระพรพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวภูมิพลอดุลยเดช เนื่องในวันคล้ายวันพระราชสมภพ ซึ่งทางราชการเองก็ได้กำหนดให้เป็นวันหยุดราชการวันหนึ่งของไทย
