วานนี้ (9ก.พ.) เวลา 17.06 น. พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว ทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าโปรดกระหม่อมให้ สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี เสด็จพระราชดำเนินแทนพระองค์ไปยังเมรุหลวงหน้าพลับพลาอิศริยาภรณ์ วัดเทพศิรินทราวาส พระราชทานเพลิงศพ ท่านผู้หญิงจงกล กิตติขจร ซึ่งถึงแก่อนิจกรรมด้วยอาการหัวใจล้มเหลว เมื่อวันที่ 13 กรกฎาคม 2555 สิริอายุ 96 ปี

ท่านผู้หญิงจงกล เกิดเมื่อวันที่ 14 มกราคม 2485 เป็นธิดาของพัน�ตรีหลวงจบกระบวนยุทธ แช่ม ถนัดรบ และคุณหญิงเครือวัลย์ จบกระบวนยุทธ หลังจบการศึกษาจากโรงเรียนทัตสิงหเสนี ได้สมรสกับจอมพลถนอม กิตติขจร อดีตนายกรัฐมนตรี มีบุตรธิดา 6 คน เริ่มทำงานเพื่อสังคมและดำรงตำแหน่งสำคัญต่างๆ ตั้งแต่สมัยสงครามอินโดจีน โดยเป็นอาสาสมัครกาชาด เมื่อปี 2483 และทำงานจนได้รับเหรียญกาชาดสรรเสริญ, เป็นสมาชิกของสมาคมสตรีไทย และสภาวัฒนธรรมหญิง ช่วยเหลืองานการกุศลทุกโอกาส จนเป็นประธานมูลนิธิราชประชาสมาสัย ในพระบรมราชูปถัมภ์ ต่อเนื่อง 10 ปี, เป็นผู้ก่อตั้งสโมสรสงเคราะห์ครอบครัวทหารผ่านศึก เมื่อปี 2511 จนมาเป็นมูลนิธิสงเคราะห์ครอบครัวทหารผ่านศึก ในพระราชูปถัมภ์ สมเด็จพระศรีนครินทราบรมราชชนนี และจากการอุทิศตนปฏิบัติงานเพื่อสังคมในด้านต่างๆ มาเป็นเวลานาน จึงได้รับพระราชทานเครื่องราชอิสริยาภรณ์มหาปรมาภรณ์ช้างเผือก มหาวชิรมงกุฎ และทุติยจุลจอมเกล้าวิเศษ
