ในการศึกษาครั้งนี้เป็นการศึกษาทัศนคติของประชาชนที่มีต่อการปฏิบัติหน้าที่ของตำรวจกรณีศึกษา: สถานีตำรวจภูธรเมืองอุทัยธานี จำแนกตามปัจจัยส่วนบุคคลของประชาชน ด้านเพศ อายุ การศึกษา อาชีพ ประสบการณ์ตรงกับตำรวจ เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยคือ แบบสอบถามในการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลภาคสนามจากกับกลุ่มตัวอย่าง จำนวน 357 คน โโดยใช้ตารางสำเร็จของเครซี่และมอร์แกน นำมาหาอัตราสัดส่วนของประชากร (Proportional to Size) แล้วใช้วิธีการสุ่มอย่างง่าย แล้วแยกตามกลุ่มตัวแปรที่ศึกษา แล้วนำแบบสอบถามมาดำเนินการวิเคราะห์และประมวลผลข้อมูลด้วยคอมพิวเตอร์ โดยใช้โปรแกรมสำเร็จรูป spss ทางสังคมศาสตร์ เพื่อคำนวณหาค่าสถิติ
กลุ่มผู้ตอบแบบสอบถามจำนวน 357 คน ส่วนใหญ่เป็นเพศชายโดยมี 186 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 52.0 ส่วนจำนวนที่เหลือ 171 คน หรือคิดเป็นร้อยละ 48.0 เป็นเพศหญิง กลุ่มผู้ตอบแบบสอบถามจำนวน 357 คน ส่วนใหญ่มีอายุระหว่าง 21 – 40 ปี มีจำนวน 155 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 50.0 รองลงมามีอายุต่ำกว่า 20 ปี มีจำนวน 101 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 33.7 มีอายุระหว่าง 41 – 60 ปี จำวน 68 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 11.0 และมีอายุ 61 ปีขึ้นไป จำนวน 33 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 5.2 กลุ่มผู้ตอบแบบสอบถามจำนวน 357 คน ส่วนใหญ่มีการศึกษาในระดับมัธยมศึกษา/ปวช. มีจำนวน 143 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 41.6 รองลงมามีการศึกษาในระดับปริญญาตรีขึ้นไปจำนวน 83 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 22.7 มีการศึกษาในระดับอนุปริญญา/ปวท./ปวส. จำนวน 70 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 19.5 และมีการศึกษาในระดับประถมศึกษา จำนวน 61 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 16.3กลุ่มผู้ตอบแบบสอบถามจำนวน 357 คน ส่วนใหญ่ประกอบอาชีพเกษตรกรรม จำนวน 123 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 35.8 รองลงมาประกอบอาชีพรับจ้าง จำนวน 86 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 23.5 ประกอบอาชีพข้าราชการ จำนวน 79 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 22.1 ประกอบอาชีพค้าขาย จำนวน 57 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 16.6 และมีการประกอบอื่นๆ จำนวน 12 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 2.0 กลุ่มผู้ตอบแบบสอบถามจำนวน 357 คน ส่วนใหญ่เป็นพยาน จำนวน 110 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 30.8 รองลงมาเป็นการแจ้งเอกสาร จำนวน 64 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 17.9 เป็นผู้ต้องหา จำนวน 47 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 13.2 เป็นเสียค่าปรับ จำนวน 47 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 13.2 เป็นแจ้งประจำวัน จำนวน 42 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 11.8 อื่นๆ จำนวน 29 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 8.1 และเป็นผู้เสียหายจำนวน 18 คน คิดเป็นร้อยละ 5.0
จากผลการวิจัยพบว่าประชาชนมีระดับทัศนคติต่อการปฏิบัติหน้าที่ของตำรวจ กรณีศึกษา: สถานีตำรวจภูธรเมืองอุทัยธานีในภาพรวมอยู่ในระดับปานกลาง
