เพื่อให้ยุติการดำเนินคดีกับพิพิธภัณฑ์บาวเออร์ส กรณีที่ถูกหน่วยงานของสหรัฐอเมริกาตรวจพบว่า โบราณวัตถุบ้านเชียงที่อยู่ในครอบครองของพิพิธภัณฑ์จำนวน 557 รายการ ถูกลักลอบนำออกจากประเทศไทยอย่างผิดกฎหมาย และตามข้อตกลงฉบับนี้กำหนดให้พิพิธภัณฑ์บาวเออร์สต้องส่งมอบโบราณวัตถุบ้านเชียงที่อยู่ในความครอบครองคืนให้กับประเทศไทย ซึ่งจากการติดตามของสถานกงสุลใหญ่ ณ นครลอสแอนเจลิส ทราบว่า เมื่อวันที่ 23 ส.ค.ที่ผ่านมา พิพิธภัณฑ์บาวเออร์ส ได้จัดส่งโบราณวัตถุบ้านเชียงจำนวน 557 รายการ คืนประเทศไทยแล้ว โดยขนส่งทางเรือและมาถึงท่าเรือกรุงเทพฯ เมื่อวันที่ 30 ส.ค.ที่ผ่านมา

ทั้งนี้ กรณีดังกล่าวนี้ สถานกงสุลใหญ่ ณ นครลอสแอนเจลิสได้ประสานงานและติดตามอย่างใกล้ชิดกับหน่วยงานของสหรัฐอเมริกาในรัฐแคลิฟอร์เนียและสถานเอกอัครราชทูตสหรัฐอเมริกา ประจำประเทศไทยมาอย่างต่อเนื่องตั้งแต่ปี 2546 เพื่อเร่งรัดกระบวนการและให้มีการส่งคืนโบราณวัตถุต่างๆกลับสู่ประเทศไทยโดยเร็ว และยังได้ประสานงานกับกระทรวงการต่างประเทศและกรมศิลปากร เพื่อเตรียมรับมอบโบราณวัตถุดังกล่าวเรียบร้อยแล้ว จึงถือเป็นอีกหนึ่งความสำเร็จในการทำงานร่วมกันระหว่างหน่วยงานของไทยและสหรัฐอเมริกา เพื่อแก้ไขปัญหาการลักลอบค้าโบราณวัตถุระหว่างประเทศอย่างผิดกฎหมาย
