ด้วยปณิธานอันแน่วแน่ของ ดร.ถาวร พรประภา ผู้เปี่ยมล้นด้วยดนตรีในหัวใจที่อยากเห็นเมืองไทยเป็นเมืองแห่งดนตรี หรือเวียนนาตะวันออก ดังนั้นเมื่อท่านเดินทางไปประเทศญี่ปุ่นในปี พ.ศ. 2508 และได้รับคำแนะนำจาก Mr. G. KAWAKAMI ประธานสถาบันดนตรี YAMAHA MUSIC FOUNDATION และประธานบริษัท NIPPON GAKKI ผู้ผลิตเครื่องดนตรียามาฮ่าที่มีชื่อเสียงทั่วโลก ซึ่งได้ให้คำแนะนำและสนับสนุนในการก่อตั้งฝ่ายดนตรียามาฮ่า ต่อจากนั้นไม่นานก็ได้เปิดโรงเรียนดนตรียามาฮ่า สถาบันดนตรียามาฮ่าขึ้นเป็นแห่งแรกในประเทศไทย เมื่อวันที่ 27 เมษายน 2509 โดยมีคุณหญิงสุเนตร พงษ์โสภณ และอาจารย์แมนรัตน์ ศรีกรานนท์ เป็นผู้ร่วมก่อตั้ง

ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ.2532 ฝ่ายดนตรียามาฮ่าและโรงเรียนดนตรียามาฮ่าได้ทำการจดทะเบียนก่อตั้งบริษัท อย่างเป็นทางการ ในนาม บริษัท สยามดนตรียามาฮ่า จำกัด ณ วันที่ 26 กันยายน 2532 จนกระทั่งถึงปัจจุบัน และมีสำนักงานใหญ่ตั้งอยู่ที่ อาคารสยามกลการ ถนนพระรามที่ 1

ปัจจุบันเมืองดนตรีที่สร้างขึ้นจากปณิธานของ ดร. ถาวร พรประภา ได้รับการสานต่อโดย ดร.พรเทพ พรประภา เป็นผู้สืบทอดเจตนารมณ์ จนเป็นที่ยอมรับโดยทั่วไปถึงมาตรฐานของสินค้าทางด้านดนตรีภายใต้ เครื่องหมาย การค้ายามาฮ่า ประเทศญี่ปุ่น ได้แก่ สินค้าประเภทคีย์บอร์ด เครื่องดนตรีสำหรับวงดุริยางค์ เครื่องดนตรีสำหรับวงคอมโบ้ เครื่องเสียง Home Theater และ Professional Audio รวมถึงหลักสูตรการเรียนการสอนจาก Yamaha Music Foundation ประเทศญี่ปุ่น

ตลอดระยะเวลากว่า 40 ปีของการดำเนินงาน บริษัท สยามดนตรียามาฮ่า จำกัดและโรงเรียนดนตรียามาฮ่ามีความภาคภูมิใจที่ได้มีส่วนร่วมพัฒนาทั้ง ทางด้านเศรษฐกิจ คือ สร้างงานอาชีพทางดนตรีให้แก่ศิลปินและนักดนตรีมืออาชีพจำนวนมาก และร่วมพัฒนาสังคมด้วยการเสริมสร้างให้เยาวชนได้มีพื้นฐานทางด้านความรู้ เกี่ยวกับดนตรีอย่างถูกต้องเป็นไปตามมาตรฐานสากล โดยการเปิดเวทีเพื่อแสดงความสามารถทางด้านดนตรี จึงเป็นแรงผลักดันให้เกิดโครงการต่างๆมากมาย อาทิ Yamaha Thailand Music Festival, การประกวดวงโยธวาธิต นักเรียน นักศึกษา ชิงถ้วยพระราชทานฯ เป็นต้น พร้อมทั้งริเริ่มโครงการใหม่ๆที่มีประโยชน์และกำลังเป็นที่สนใจเพิ่มมากขึ้น และได้ดำเนินงานจัดกิจกรรมต่อเนื่องมาทุกปี
