ได้แก่บริเวณ เทือกเขานครศรีธรรมราช มีอาณาเขตตั้งแต่ตอนเหนือของ จังหวัดลงไป ถึงตอนใต้สุด บริเวณพื้นที่ของอําเภอที่อยู่ในเขตเทือกเขาตอนกลางได้แก่ อําเภอสิชล อําเภอ ขนอม อําเภอท่าศาลา อําเภอเมืองนครศรีธรรมราช อําเภอลานสกา อําเภอพรหมคีรี อําเภอ ร่อนพิบูลย์ อําเภอชะอวด อําเภอจุฬาภรณ์ และอําเภอพระพรหม ในเขตเทือกเขานี้มีภูเขาสูง สุดในจังหวัด คือเขาหลวง ซึ่งสูงประมาณ 1,835 เมตร เหนือระดับน้ำทะเล

ได้แก่บริเวณ ตั้งแต่เทือกเขาตอนกลางไปทางตะวันออกถึงฝั่งทะเลอ่าวไทย จําแนกได้ เป็น 2 ตอน คือ ตั้งแต่อําเภอเมืองนครศรีธรรมราชลงไปทางใต้ เป็นที่ราบ ที่มีความกว้างจาก บริเวณเทือกเขาตอนกลางไปถึงชายฝั่งทะเลระยะทางประมาณ 95 กิโลเมตร มีแม่น้ำลําคลอง ที่มีต้นน้ำเกิดจากบริเวณเทือกเขาตอนกลางไหลลงสู่อ่าวไทยหลายสาย นับเป็นที่ราบ ซึ่งมีค่า ทางเศรษฐกิจของจังหวัด ลําน้ำสําคัญ ได้แก่ แม่น้ำปากพนัง และมี คลองสายเล็ก ในเขต อําเภอเมืองนครศรีธรรมราชอีกหลายสาย เช่น คลองปากพญา และคลองท้ายวังเป็นต้น อีก บริเวณหนึ่ง คือตั้งแต่อําเภอท่าศาลาขึ้นไปทางทิศเหนือ เป็นบริเวณฝั่งแคบ ๆ ไม่เกิน 15 กิโลเมตร อําเภอที่อยู่ในเขตที่ราบด้านนี้คือ อําเภอขนอม อําเภอสิชล อําเภอท่าศาลา อําเภอ เมืองนครศรีธรรมราช อําเภอปากพนัง อําเภอเชียรใหญ่ อําเภอหัวไทร และอําเภอชะอวด
