งานประเพณีต่างๆของชาวลาว นอกจากวิถีชีวิตความเป็นอยู่ และภาษาที่ไทย – ลาวมีความคล้ายคลึงกันแล้ว งานประเพณีต่างๆตลอดปีของลาวก็ดูไม่ต่างจากชาวไทยในภาคอีสานนัก เกือบทั้งหมดเป็นงานประเพณีที่เกี่ยวเนื่องกับพุทธศาสนาเรียกกันว่า ฮีตสิบสอง
• ฮีต หมายถึง จารีต
• สิบสอง หมายถึง เดือนทั้ง 12 เดือนในรอบหนึ่งปี
ชาวหลวงพระบางมีงานประเพณีครบทั้งสิบสองเดือนในหนึ่งปี
• เดือนอ้าย: บุญเข้ากรรม

ลักษณะงาน : งานบุญพระเวสหรืองานบุญมหาชาติ เช่นเดียวกับงานฟังเทศพระเวสสันดรชาดก อันเป็นชาดกที่ยิ่งใหญ่ ชาวบ้านจะช่วยกันตกแต่งประดับประดาโรงธรรมด้วยดอกไม้ ใช้ดอกบัวประดับธรรมมาสน์ มีการจัดรูปขบวนแห่พระเวสสันดรและนางมัทรีออกจากป่าเข้าในเมืองไปสิ้นสุดที่พระอุโบสถ มีการเทศน์มหาเวสสันดรตลอดวัน

• เดือนเจ็ด : บุญซำฮะ
ช่วงที่จัด : เดือนเจ็ด
ลักษณะงาน : งานเล็กๆ แต่สำคัญ จุดประสงค์เพื่อเป็นการชำระล้างเสนียดจัญไร ที่จะเกิดกับบ้านเมือง เพื่อให้บ้านเมืองมีความสงบสุข
• เดือนแปด : บุญเข้าพรรษา
ช่วงที่จัด : วันขึ้น 15 ค่ำ เดือน 8
ลักษณะงาน : เป็นการเริ่มต้นฤดูเข้าพรรษาเหมือนชาวไทย พระสงฆ์จะหยุดออกบิณฑบาตรเป็นเวลา 3 เดือนตามพุทธบัญญัติ นับแต่วันเข้าพรรษาเป็นต้นไปในวันแรกนี้จะมีการทำบุญกันที่วัดต่างๆ
