ตัน ภาสกรนที เกิดเมื่อวันที่ 4 เมษายน พ.ศ. 2502 เป็นลูกคนสุดท้องจากลูกๆ 6 คน ในครอบครัวชาวไทยเชื้อสายจีนที่มีฐานะปานกลาง โดยบิดาของเขาอพยพมาจากสาธารณรัฐประชาชนจีน และตั้งรกรากที่จังหวัดชลบุรี ตันจบการศึกษาชั้นมัธยมปีที่ 3 และเริ่มทำงานแรกเป็นพนักงานแบกของ ซึ่งมีค่าแรง 700 บาท และหันมาเป็นเจ้าของแผงหนังสือที่ชลบุรี และเริ่มต้นขยายกิจการไปซื้อห้องแถว จนกลายเป็นเจ้าของธุรกิจอสังหาริมทรัพย์[2] เมื่อวันที่ 9 กันยายน พ.ศ. 2542 ปัจจุบัน ตันสมรสกับ สุนิสา หรืออิง ภาสกรนที (สกุลเดิม: สุขพันธุ์ถาวร) มีบุตรด้วยกันสองคนคือ เก็ท กับ ใกล้ใกล้ อนึ่ง ก่อนหน้านี้เขาแยกทางกับภรรยาคนแรก โดยมีบุตรสาวด้วยกันหนึ่งคน คือวริษาหรือกิ๊ฟ
ธุรกิจ
ตันเริ่มต้นธุรกิจภัตตาคารบุฟเฟ่ต์อาหารญี่ปุ่น ภายใต้ชื่อ “โออิชิ” และขยายมาทำธุรกิจเครื่องดื่ม คือชาเขียวโออิชิ และน้ำผลไม้ อะมิโน โอเค โดยที่กลุ่มธุรกิจนี้ของเขา ประสบความสำเร็จอย่างสูง นอกจากนี้ยังมีธุรกิจอื่นๆ อย่างสตูดิโอถ่ายภาพแต่งงานเป็นต้น
เมื่อวันที่ 30 กันยายน พ.ศ. 2551 ตันขายหุ้นใหญ่ของบริษัท โออิชิ กรุ๊ป จำกัด (มหาชน) ที่เขามีอยู่ให้กับ บมจ.ไทยเบฟเวอร์เรจ[3] และในที่สุดเมื่อวันที่ 9 กันยายน พ.ศ. 2553 เขาก็ลาออกจากตำแหน่งกรรมการผู้จัดการ บมจ.โออิชิกรุ๊ป[4] ในวันเดียวกันนั้น ตันก็จดทะเบียนจัดตั้งบริษัทใหม่ โดยให้ชื่อว่า บริษัท ไม่ตัน จำกัด เพื่อประกอบธุรกิจเครื่องดื่ม ซึ่งประกอบด้วยผลิตภัณฑ์ น้ำผลไม้ผสมดับเบิลดริงก์ และชาเขียวอิชิตัน
ต่อมา ตัน ภาสกรนที ได้เปลี่ยนชื่อบริษัท เป็น บริษัท อิชิตัน กรุ๊ป และประกาศคำมั่นสัญญา ในการดำเนินงานของบริษัทว่า ตั้งแต่ปีแรกที่ดำเนินกิจการ เขาและภรรยาจะแบ่งครึ่งหนึ่งของเงินปันผลที่ได้จากบริษัทฯ ในส่วนที่ทั้งสองถือหุ้นอยู่ ให้กับมูลนิธิตันปัน เพื่อพัฒนาการศึกษาและสิ่งแวดล้อม ซึ่งก่อตั้งขึ้นในช่วงเดียวกันนั้น จนกระทั่งเมื่อตันมีอายุครบ 60 ปี คือเริ่มตั้งแต่วันที่ 9 กันยายน พ.ศ. 2562 เป็นต้นไป เขาจะเพิ่มเงินบริจาคจากส่วนที่ได้รับปันผล ขึ้นเป็นไม่ต่ำกว่าร้อยละ 90 อีกด้วย[5]
