Keeping in view of the fact that, azo dye ligand are well known for their antiseptic and
chemotherapeutic value of sulfa-drugs, azo dye ligand has been synthesized by coupling of diazotized
sulfamethizole with 2-ethyl-4-methyl phenol. The complex of cobalt (II) with the azo dye ligand has been
synthesized by refluxing the alcoholic solution of ligand with metal salt solution.
They have been characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, absorption spectra, conductivity measurement,
molecular weight determination and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The ligand as well as the metal
complex has been screened for their antimicrobial activity against a number of microorganisms. The complex
has exhibited potential activity against some bacteria/fungi. The complex are non-ionic nature. The cobalt(II)
complexes are paramagnetic and structure of ML2 type.
