จากการที่พุทธศาสนาเป็นศาสนาหลัก ทำให้ประเพณีปฏิบัติต่างๆ ของประชาชนชาวกัมพูชาจะสอดคล้องใกล้เคียงกับประเทศไทยเป็นอย่างมาก โดยผู้สูงอายุจะเข้าวัดฟังธรรม เมื่อมีงานบุญตามประเพณี ประชาชนหนุ่มสาวและเด็กจะร่วมแรงช่วยเหลือจัดการงานอย่างสม่ำเสมอ ทั้งนี้ จะมีงานบุญประเพณีที่สำคัญทางพระพุทธศาสนาตามจันทรคติเช่นเดียวประเทศไทยเป็นวันหยุดราชการ ได้แก่ วันมาฆบูชา, วันปีใหม่เขมร ( Khmer New Year ) ซึ่งตรงกับวันสงกรานต์จะหยุดราชการในวันที่ 14 – 16 เมษายนทุกปี, วันวิสาบูชา วันสาร์ทเขมรซึ่งตรงกับ วันแรม 15 ค่ำ เดือน 10 (เรียกว่างานวันปรอจุมเบณ , Pchum Ben day) โดยจะหยุดราชการ 3 วัน ตั้งแต่วันแรม 14 ค่ำ เดือน 10 จนขึ้น 1 ค่ำ เดือน 11 และงานวันลอยกระทง ( Water Festival ) เรียกว่างานบุญอมตุก หรืองานแข่งเรือ เพราะจะมีเรือจากจังหวัดต่างๆมาแข่งฝีพายกันหน้าพระบรมมหาราชวัง จะหยุดราชการ 3 วัน ตั้งแต่วันขึ้น 14 ค่ำ เดือน 12 ถึงวันแรม 1 ค่ำ เดือน 1 นอกจากนี้จะเป็นวันหยุดนักขัตฤกษ์ในโอกาสต่างๆ
