เป็นวัดเก่าแก่ ไม่ปรากฏหลักฐานว่าสร้างขึ้นมาตั้งแต่เมื่อไร แต่เดิมเป็นวัดร้างตั้งอยู่กลางสวนผลไม้ของชาวบ้าน พื้นที่ประมาณไร่เศษ มีเพียงพระพุทธรูปปูนปั้นโบราณ คือหลวงพ่อโต และศาลาไม้เก่าแก่ อย่างไรก็ดีจากการวิเคราะห์ชิ้นส่วนกระเบื้องเชิงชายหน้าอุดของหลังคาอุโบสถหลังเก่าที่ค้นพบ และพุทธลักษณะของหลวงพ่อโต สันนิษฐานอายุได้ ประมาณพุทธศตวรรษที่ 21-22
เมื่อหลวงพ่อสนอง กตปุญโญได้มาพบวัดสังฆทานครั้งแรก ในปี พ.ศ.2511 ท่านได้พิจารณาสถานที่ว่าเหมาะสมแก่การเผยแผ่พระพุทธศาสนาและปฏิบัติธรรม ท่านได้กลับมาอีกครั้งในปี พ.ศ. 2517 ในปีต่อมาจึงได้ร่วมกับพระเณรและชาวบ้าน ช่วยกันบูรณะองค์หลวงพ่อโต ในปี พ.ศ. 2536 หลวงพ่อสนองจึงดำริให้รื้อศาลาหลังเดิมที่ประดิษฐานหลวงพ่อโตออกเพื่อสร้างพระอุโบสถขึ้นแทน และหลวงพ่อสังวาลย์ เขมโก ได้วางศิลาฤกษ์สร้างพระอุโบสถในวันมาฆบูชา ปี พ.ศ. 2537
