การวิจัยครั้งนี้มุ่งศึกษาเปรียบเทียบพฤติกรรมการออมของพนักงานเอกชนและข้าราชการในเขตเมืองนครราชสีมา จังหวัดนครราชสีมา กลุ่มตัวอย่าง 200 คน เป็นพนักงานเอกชนในเขตเมืองนครราชสีมา จำนวน 100 คน และข้าราชการในเขตเมืองนครราชสีมา จำนวน 100 คน สุ่มตัวอย่างโดยวิธีการทาโร่ ยามาเน่(Taro Yamana) เครื่องมือที่ใช้เป็นแบบสอบถามแบ่งออกเป็น 3 ส่วน ได้แก่ ส่วนที่ 1 เกี่ยวกับตัวผู้ตอบแบบสอบถาม ส่วนที่ 2 เกี่ยวกับพฤติกรรมการออม และส่วนที่ 3 แรงจูงใจให้เกิดการออม ใช้สถิติอนุมาน Regression Analysis , t-test และการทดสอบสมมติฐานเกี่ยวกับค่าสัดส่วน 2 ประชากร ผลการวิจัยพบว่า พนักงานเอกชนและข้าราชการ ส่วนใหญ่เป็นเพศหญิง มีอายุระหว่าง 20 - 29 ปี สำเร็จการศึกษา ปริญญาตรี สถานภาพโสด มีวัตถุประสงค์ในการออมเงินเพื่อไว้ใช้จ่ายยามฉุกเฉิน ประเภทการออมที่ออมผ่านธนาคารมากที่สุด คือ เงินฝากออมทรัพย์ พนักงานเอกชนออมเงินเฉลี่ยต่อเดือน เท่ากับ 3,105.20 บาท ข้าราชการออมเงินเฉลี่ยต่อเดือน เท่ากับ 4,230 บาท รูปแบบการออมที่มีความพึงพอใจมากที่สุด คือ การออมกับธนาคารพาณิชย์ ซึงแรงจูงใจที่ทำให้เกิดการออมมากที่สุด ก็คือ ปริมาณรายได้ เมื่อเปรียบเทียบพฤติกรรมการออมของพนักงานเอกชนและข้าราชการ พบว่าอัตราดอกเบี้ยส่งผลต่อรูปแบบการออม พนักงานเอกชนมีการออมเงินไม่สูงกว่าข้าราชการและสัดส่วนการออมเงินแบบฝากออมทรัพย์ของพนักงานเอกชนและข้าราชการไม่แตกต่างกัน
