อดีตที่ผ่านมาครูมีความสำคัญต่อสังคมมากมาย จนกระทั่งสังคมยกย่องให้ครูเป็นปูชนียบุคคล, เป็นพ่อแม่คนที่สองของศิษย์ เพราะนอกจากครูจะคอยสั่งสอนอบรมวิชาความรู้ต่างๆ โดยเฉพาะวิชาภาษาอังกฤษ แล้วครูจะต้องคอยดูแลเอาใจใส่ต่อสุขทุกข์ของศิษย์ ความเจริญก้าวหน้าของศิษย์และคอยปกป้องมิให้ศิษย์กระทำความชั่วต่างๆอีกด้วย

งานของครู เป็นงานสร้างสรรค์ที่บริสุทธิ์เพราะเป็นการวางรากฐานความรู้ ความดี และความสามารถทุกๆด้านแก่ศิษย์ เพื่อช่วยให้สามารถดำรงตนเป็นคนดี มีอาชีพเป็นหลักฐาน และเป็นประโยชน์แก่สังคม เพื่อความสำเร็จ ความก้าวหน้าและความสุขความเจริญของผู้อื่นตลอดชีวิต จะเห็นได้ว่า ครูไม่ใช่บุคคลธรรมดาแต่ครูเป็นบุคคลที่มีความสำคัญต่อสังคมและประเทศชาติอย่างยิ่งเพราะครูเป็นทั้งผู้สร้าง และผู้กำหนดอนาคตของเยาวชน สังคมและประเทศชาติ ให้พัฒนาไปในทิศทางที่ต้องการและถูกต้อง แต่ความคาดหวังที่หลายฝ่ายหวังไว้กับครู จะสำเร็จได้ก็ต้องขึ้นอยู่กับความรับผิดชอบ ความตั้งใจจริง ความเสียสละ ความเอาใจใส่ ความอดทน ในการที่จะอบรมสั่งสอนศิษย์ของครูนั่นเอง

ในสภาพปัจจุบันครูนับว่าเป็นผู้ที่มีบทบาทสำคัญในการพัฒนาสังคมและประเทศชาติ เพราะครูมีหน้าที่ต้องพัฒนาคน พัฒนาความคิด พัฒนาความรู้ และพัฒนาคุณธรรม จริยธรรมให้แก่เยาวชนของชาติ เพื่อที่พวกเขาจะได้เป็นคนที่มีคุณภาพของสังคมต่อไป
