การดำเนินการวิจัยในการวิเคราะห์ปัจจัยความเสี่ยงต่อความแห้งแล้ง โดยประยุกต์ใช้ระบบสารสนเทศภูมิศาสตร์ (Geographic Information System: GIS) และวิเคราะห์ความเสี่ยงต่อความแห้งแล้งโดยใช้แบบจำลองทางคณิตศาสตร์ (Mathematical Model) แล้วประเมินความแห้งแล้งของพื้นที่พร้อมจัดทำแผนที่พื้นที่เสี่ยงต่อความแห้งแล้ง โดยประยุกต์ใช้ระบบสารสนเทศภูมิศาสตร์ด้วยโปรแกรม ArcGIS เพื่อศึกษาปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อความแห้งแล้งเชิงเกษตรกรรมในพื้นที่ลุ่มน้ำลำตะคอง โดยศึกษาปัจจัยหลัก 3 ปัจจัย ได้แก่ ปัจจัย สภาพภูมิอากาศ ปัจจัยทรัพยากรดิน และปัจจัยการใช้ประโยชน์ที่ดิน โดยมีปัจจัยรองรวม 10 ปัจจัย เพื่อวิเคราะห์ระดับความเสี่ยงและพื้นที่เสี่ยงความแห้งแล้งเชิงเกษตรกรรมในพื้นที่ลุ่มน้ำ โดยการประยุกต์ใช้หลักการ Analysis Hierarchy Process (AHP) ร่วมกับระบบสารสนเทศภูมิศาสตร์ โดยมีแนวทางการศึกษาดังรูปที่ 1
