(23 มี.ค.) สำนักข่าวต่างประเทศรายงานว่า นาย ลี กวน ยู อดีตนายกรัฐมนตรีคนแรกของประเทศสิงคโปร์ วัย 91 ปี ถึงแก่อสัญกรรมแล้วเมื่อเวลา 03.18 น. ของวันที่ 23 มี.ค.หลังจากเข้ารับการรักษาอาการปอดติดเชื้อรุนแรงที่โรงพยาบาลมาตั้งแต่ 5 ก.พ. ที่ผ่านมา

สำนักงานนายกรัฐมนตรีของสิงคโปร์มีแถลงการณ์ว่า นาย ลี เซียน ลุง นายกรัฐมนตรี รู้สึกเสียใจอย่างยิ่งที่ต้องประกาศว่า นาย ลี กวน ยู อดีตนายกรัฐมนตรีผู้ก่อตั้งประเทศสิงคโปร์ ถึงแก่อสัญกรรมแล้ว โดยนายลีจากไปอย่างสงบที่โรงพยาบาล สิงคโปร์ เจเนอรัล วันนี้ เวลา 03.18 น. (ประมาณ 02.18 น. ตามเวลาประเทศไทย)

ล่าสุด นาย ลี เซียน ลุง นายกรัฐมนตรีสิงคโปร์ ประกาศไว้อาลัยให้ลี กวน ยู อดีตนายกฯ แห่งสิงคโปร์ 23-29 มี.ค.โดยจะมีพิธีฝังศพวันที่ 29 มี.ค.นี้

ประวัติ นาย ลี กวน ยู เกิดเมื่อวันที่ 16 ก.ย. ปี พ.ศ.2466 เป็นผู้ร่วมก่อตั้งพรรคกิจประชาชน (People's Action Party) ในปี พ.ศ. 2497 และนำพรรคชนะการเลือกตั้ง 8 ครั้ง ตั้งแต่ปี 2502 ถึง 2533 รวมทั้งนำพาประเทศผ่านการรวมชาติกับประเทศมาเลเซียในปี 2506 และได้รับอิสรภาพในปี 2508

นายลี กวน ยู ถือเป็นอดีตผู้นำที่ชาวสิงคโปร์ยกย่อง เพราะเป็นทั้งผู้ก่อตั้งประเทศ นายกรัฐมนตรีคนแรก ซึ่งดำรงตำแหน่งนายกรัฐมนตรีของประเทศยาวนานถึง 31 ปี และยังคงทำงานร่วมกับรัฐบาลจนถึงปี ค.ศ. 2011 และเป็นผู้ยังสร้างเศรษฐกิจของสิงคโปร์จนเจริญก้าวหน้าเหนือประเทศอื่นในอาเซียน

นายลี กวน ยู มีบุตรชาย 2 คน คือ ลี เซียน ลุง นายกรัฐมนตรีสิงคโปร์คนปัจจุบัน และนาย ลี เซียน ยัง ประธานคนปัจจุบันของสำนักงานการบินพลเรือนสิงคโปร์ และมีบุตรีอีก 1 คน คือ ลี เว่ย หลิง ผู้บริหารสถาบันประสาทวิทยาแห่งชาติ

นายลี กวน ยู ป่วยหนักจากอาการปอดอักเสบติดเชื้อจนต้องถูกนำส่งโรงพยาบาล ตั้งแต่เมื่อ 5 ก.พ. และมีอาการทรุดลงอย่างต่อเนื่อง จนกระทั่งเสียชีวิตอย่างสงบในวันนี้
