โรงเรียนสวนกุหลาบวิทยาลัย นนทบุรี ถือกำเนิดขึ้น โดยเจตจำนงของผาสุก และเง็ก มณีจักร คหบดีชาวปากเกร็ดสองสามีภรรยา ซึ่งมีบุตรชายและหลานชายเป็นศิษย์เก่าโรงเรียนสวนกุหลาบวิทยาลัย[4] บริจาคที่ดินบริเวณใกล้กับถนนติวานนท์เป็นจำนวน 25 ไร่ 1 งาน 18 ตารางวา เพื่อสร้างโรงเรียนในเครือสวนกุหลาบวิทยาลัย เมื่อต้นปีการศึกษา 2520 โดยมีผู้ร่วมก่อตั้งคือ สุวรรณ จันทร์สม อดีตผู้อำนวยการโรงเรียนสวนกุหลาบวิทยาลัย[5] ผู้อำนวยการกองการมัธยมศึกษาในขณะนั้น, สมพงษ์ พูลสวัสดิ์ และกว้าง รอบคอบ อดีตอธิบดีกรมสามัญศึกษา ขณะนั้นเป็นผู้อำนวยการโรงเรียนปากเกร็ด เป็นผู้ประสานงานจัดตั้ง

แต่เนื่องจากบริเวณที่ตั้งของโรงเรียนไม่ติดถนน ประพัฒน์ แก่นรัตนะ เจ้าของที่ดินด้านหน้าโรงเรียนที่ติดถนนติวานนท์ จึงได้อนุญาตให้ที่ดินเพื่อสร้าง “ถนนแก่นรัตนะ” (ถนนส่วนบุคคล) เป็นทางเข้าออกโรงเรียน ขนาดของถนน กว้าง 12 เมตร ยาว 343 เมตร และได้ทำหนังสือมอบไว้ต่อกรมสามัญศึกษา[1] ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ. 2545 ได้บริจาคที่ดินในส่วนที่เป็นถนนให้กับทางโรงเรียน โดยเทศบาลนครปากเกร็ดจัดงบประมาณจัดสร้างถนนคอนกรีตให้กับทางโรงเรียน ทำให้พื้นที่ของโรงเรียนเพิ่มขึ้นเป็น 25 ไร่ 3 งาน 18 ตารางวา จนถึงปัจจุบัน

ต่อมา ในวันที่ 9 พฤศจิกายน พ.ศ. 2522 กระทรวงศึกษาธิการ ได้ประกาศเปลี่ยนชื่อโรงเรียน จาก โรงเรียนสวนกุหลาบวิทยาลัย ๒ (ผาสุก มณีจักร) เป็น โรงเรียนสวนกุหลาบวิทยาลัย นนทบุรี ซึ่งเป็นชื่อที่ใช้มาจนถึงปัจจุบัน

เมื่อวันที่ 13 สิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2525 สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี มีพระมหากรุณาธิคุณโปรดเกล้าโปรดกระหม่อม พระราชทานพระนามาภิไธยย่อ สธ ให้เป็นนามของอาคารเรียนสองหลังแรกของโรงเรียนฯ คือ สธ ๑ และ สธ ๒ พร้อมทั้งได้เสด็จพระราชดำเนินทรงเปิดอาคารเรียนทั้งสองหลังด้วยพระองค์เอง โดยอักษรพระนามาภิไธยย่อ สธ ที่ประดับอยู่บนอาคารในวันนั้น ทำขึ้นจากโฟมพ่นสีทอง ซึ่งเป็นผลงานของนายอมร นิพันธ์ประศาสน์ อาจารย์หัวหน้าหมวดวิชาศิลปศึกษาในขณะนั้น

ปีการศึกษา 2526 โรงเรียนฯ ได้รับงบประมาณให้สร้างถนนลาดยาง จากริมถนนติวานนท์ ถึงทางเข้าประตูโรงเรียน ต่อมาในปีการศึกษา 2527 โรงเรียนฯ ได้รับงบประมาณจากกระทรวงศึกษาธิการ และเงินสมทบจากสมาคมผู้ปกครองและครูของโรงเรียนฯ เพื่อสร้างอาคารหอประชุม และในปีการศึกษา 2528 โรงเรียนฯ ได้รับงบประมาณจากกรมสามัญศึกษา และเงินสมทบ จากสมาคมศิษย์เก่าสวนกุหลาบวิทยาลัยฯ, สมาคมผู้ปกครองและครูฯ และเงินบำรุงการศึกษา เพื่อจัดสร้างถนนคอนกรีต ภายในบริเวณโรงเรียนฯ

ในวันที่ 17 พฤศจิกายน พ.ศ. 2529 สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี พระราชทานนามอาคารหอประชุมโรงเรียนฯ ว่า หอประชุม สิรินธราลัย และได้ทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าโปรดกระหม่อมให้ ศาสตราจารย์ ดร.ธานินทร์ กรัยวิเชียร องคมนตรี ผู้แทนพระองค์ เป็นประธานในพิธีเปิดหอประชุมฯ

วันที่ 9 กันยายน พ.ศ. 2535 สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี มีพระมหากรุณาธิคุณโปรดเกล้าโปรดกระหม่อม พระราชทานนามอาคารเรียนหลังใหม่ว่า สธ ๓ พร้อมทั้งได้เสด็จพระราชดำเนินทรงเปิดอาคารเรียนดังกล่าว พร้อมทั้งสวนเฉลิมพระเกียรติ 60 พรรษามหาราชินี, ห้องสมุดสวนเสริมปัญญา และศาลากลางน้ำ ด้วยพระองค์เอง นอกจากนี้ ยังทรงเยี่ยมชมห้องสมุดติณสูลานนท์ รวมถึงนิทรรศการและกิจกรรมทางวิชาการของคณาจารย์และนักเรียนด้วย รวมเวลาที่ประทับอยู่ที่โรงเรียนราว 4 ชั่วโมงเศษ

เมื่อวันที่ 11 กรกฎาคม พ.ศ. 2555 สมเด็จพระเทพรัตนราชสุดาฯ สยามบรมราชกุมารี มีพระมหากรุณาธิคุณโปรดเกล้าโปรดกระหม่อม เสด็จพระราชดำเนินทรงเปิด พระบรมราชานุสาวรีย์ พระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ซึ่งประดิษฐานอยู่ ณ บริเวณลานอเนกประสงค์ของโรงเรียนฯ อย่างเป็นทางการ พร้อมทั้งทอดพระเนตรความก้าวหน้าของโรงเรียนฯ ตลอดจนกิจกรรมต่างๆ ของนักเรียนด้วย นับเป็นการเสด็จพระราชดำเนินทรงเยี่ยมโรงเรียนฯ เป็นครั้งที่สามนับแต่ก่อตั้งเป็นต้นมา[6]
