ในโอกาสที่มหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ครบรอบการสถาปนาปีที่ 50 ในปี 2527 มหาวิทยาลัยได้จัดสร้างพระพุทธรูปประจำมหาวิทยาลัยจำนวน 4 องค์ โดยพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯ เสด็จพระราชดำเนินทรงเททองหล่อพระ และพระราชทานนามพระพุทธรูปดังกล่าวว่า “พระพุทธธรรมทิฐิศาสดา” เพื่อประดิษฐาน ณ ท่าพระจันทร์ ศูนย์รังสิต ศูนย์พัทยา และ สมาคมธรรมศาสตร์ในพระบรมราชูปถัมภ์
ต่อมาในปี 2542 มหาวิทยาลัยเห็นควรสร้างอาคารหอพระและเอนกประสงค์ศาลาในบริเวณ เดียวกับองค์พระ เพื่อถวายพระราชกุศลในวโรกาสที่พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวทรงเจริญพระชนมายุครบ 72 พรรษาในวันที่ 5 ธันวาคม 2542 และอัญเชิญพระพุทธธรรมทิฐิศาสดามาประดิษฐาน ณ หอพระ เมื่อขยายการเรียนการสอนระดับปริญญาตรีที่มหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ ศูนย์รังสิตในปี 2543
