ในปัจจุบันเทคโนโลยีทางวิทยาศาสตร์ได้ก้าวหน้าเกิดการพัฒนาอย่างรวดเร็ว และยังคงดำเนินต่อไปอย่างต่อเนื่อง การศึกษาทางวิทยาศาสตร์ที่คุ้มค่าและไม่สูญเสียทรัพยากร คือ การศึกษาจากสิ่งที่เราสามารถสังเกตได้รอบตัวในชีวิตประจำวันนำเข้าสู่กระบวนการทางวิทยาศาสตร์ให้ได้แนวความคิดใหม่เพื่อประยุกต์ใช้ให้เกิดประโยชน์ได้อีก ซึ่งวิทยาศาสตร์ในชีวิตประจำวันนั้นพบได้หลากหลายแขนง ในที่นี้เป็นการศึกษาเกี่ยวกับ ปฏิกิริยาเคมีในชีวิตประจำวัน ซึ่งสามารถพบได้อย่างมากมาย อาทิเช่น ในห้องครัว ปฏิกิริยาเคมีตัวอย่างที่จะกล่าวนี้คือ ปฏิกิริยาเมลลาร์ด (Maillard reaction) ซึ่งเป็นปฏิกิริยาระหว่างกรดอะมิโน (amino acid) กับน้ำตาลรีดิวซ์ (reducing sugar) ที่ทำให้เกิดสารที่มีสีน้ำตาลและมีกลิ่นหอม จากการศึกษาค้นคว้านั้นสารที่ได้จาก ปฏิกิริยาเมลลาร์ด (Maillard reaction) สามารถรีดิวซ์ไอออนของโลหะให้กลายเป็นโลหะที่สามารถนำไฟฟ้าได้
