พระยาภักดีชุมพล เดิมชื่อ"แล" เป็นชา

ใน พ.ศ. 2365 ขุนภักดีชุมพลได้ย้ายชุมชนมาอยู่ที่บ้านหลวง ซึ่งอยู่ระหว่างบ้านหนองหลอดกับบ้านหนองปลาเฒ่า ในเขตอำเภอเมืองชัยภูมิปัจจุบัน เนื่องจากสถานที่เดิมเริ่มคับแคบ ไม่พอกับจำนวนพลเมืองที่เพิ่มขึ้น
