ประวัติความเป็นมา
ตำนานพระพุทธกษัตราธิราช วัดกษัตราธิราชวรวิหาร
"วัดกษัตราธิราชวรวิหาร" ตั้งอยู่ริมแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยาฝั่งตะวันตก ต.บ้านป้อม อ.พระนครศรีอยุธยา จ.พระนครศรีอยุธยา เป็นวัดโบราณ ปรากฏหลักฐานพบว่ามีมาตั้งแต่สมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยา เดิมชื่อ วัดกษัตรา หรือ กษัตราราม หรือ กษัตราวาส ไม่ปรากฏหลักฐานว่า ใครเป็นผู้สร้าง แต่ชื่อของวัดทำให้สันนิษฐานว่า คงเป็นวัดที่พระมหากษัตริย์ หรือพระบรมวงศานุวงศ์ ในสมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยา พระองค์ใดพระองค์หนึ่ง ทรงสร้าง วัดนี้จึงมีชื่อว่า วัดกษัตรา ซึ่งหมายความว่าเป็นวัดของพระมหากษัตริย์ หรือวัดของพระเจ้าแผ่นดิน มีปรากฏในแผ่นดินสมเด็จพระสุริยามรินทร์ ว่า แรม 14 ค่ำ เดือน 5 พม่าเอาปืนใหญ่มาตั้งที่วัดราชพฤกษ์และวัดกษัตราวาส ยิงเข้ามาในพระนคร ถูกบ้านเรือนราษฎรล้มตายจำนวนมาก วัดนี้คงถูกทำลายเมื่อคราวเสียกรุงศรีอยุธยาจึงถูกทิ้งร้างเรื่อยมา
