“พ.ศ.2519 ครั้งแรกของการค้นพบฟอสซิลไดโนเสาร์ในประเทศไทย” ถ้านับๆดูแล้วก็ผ่านมาเกือบ 40 ปีเลยทีเดียวนะคะ วันนี้เราจะพาไปเจอกับไดโนเสาร์ที่มีอายุเป็นล้านๆปีกันเลย เดากันได้มั้ยคะว่าวันนี้เราจะไปเที่ยว ณ สถานที่ท่องเที่ยวแห่งใดกัน ใบ้ให้นิดนึงแล้วกันค่ะว่า ‘พิพิธภัณฑ์แห่งนี้ตั้งอยู่ในจังหวัดขอนแก่น’ พอจะเดากันได้มั้ยคะ?

“พิพิธภัณฑ์ไดโนเสาร์ภูเวียง” อำเภอเวียงเก่า จังหวัดขอนแก่นนี่เองค่ะ งั้นเราอย่าเสียเวลาอันมีค่าของเราเลยค่ะ ไปทำความรู้จักกับพิพิธภัณฑ์นี้กันดีกว่าค่ะว่าทำไมเราถึงต้องเดินทางไปดูให้เห็นกับตาให้ได้ พิพิธภัณฑ์แห่งนี้นะคะเน้นการจัดแสดงหรือการวางเรื่องราวให้เกี่ยวข้องกับเรื่องของซากดึกดำบรรพ์ค่ะ และในพ.ศ.2519 อย่างที่เล่าไปแล้วค่ะว่าเป็นครั้งแรกของการค้นพบซากฟอสซิลไดโนเสาร์เป็นที่แรกของเมืองไทย บริเวณห้วยประตูตีหมา ฟอสซิลกระดูกชิ้นที่พบนั้นมีความกว้างยาวประมาณ 1 ฟุต จากการศึกษาวิจัยพบว่ามีฟอสซิลชิ้นนี้ลักษณะใกล้เคียงกับไดโนเสาร์ซอโรพอด ซึ่งมีขนาดใหญ่ยาวประมาณ 15 เมตร และจากการตรวจสอบพบว่าเป็นส่วนปลายล่างสุดของกระดูกต้นขาของไดโนเสาร์จำพวกกินพืช ทำให้เกิดการเริ่มต้นการสำรวจไดโนเสาร์ที่ภูเวียงอย่างจริงจังในปี 2524 ค่ะ ในปีนั้นเองค่ะที่ได้พบ กระดูกไดโนเสาร์ชนิดกินพืชขนาดใหญ่ ฟันจระเข้ กระดองเต่า ฟันและเกล็ดปลาโบราณ

จากการค้นพบนี้เองค่ะ ที่เป็นการค้นพบที่สร้างชื่อเสียงให้กับพิพิธภัณฑ์แห่งนี้เป็นอย่างมาก มีการตั้งชื่อฟอสซิลไดโนเสาร์ที่ค้นพบว่า “ภูเวียงโกซอรัส สิรินธรณี” การที่ใช้ชื่อนี้ยิ่งทำให้ผู้คนไม่ว่าจะเป็นคนไทยเองก็ดี หรือคนต่างชาติ ต่างกูมีการพูดถึงฟอสซิลไดโนเสาร์ที่ค้นพบกันอย่างกว้างขวาง ภายในพิพิธภัณฑ์มีการจัดให้นักท่องเที่ยวได้ศึกษาแหล่งขุดค้นพบซากฟอสซิลไดโนเสาร์รวมกันถึง 9 หลุม ให้ได้ความรู้กลับไปอย่างเต็มที่เลยนะคะ เพราะ หลังจากที่มีการค้นพบซากฟอสซิลไดโนเสาร์ชิ้นแรกแล้ว ยังได้มีการขุดค้นพบซากฟอสซิลรวมถึงรอยเท้าไดโนเสาร์อีกด้วยค่ะ

โดยหลุมที่ 1 “ประตูตีหมา” จัดแสดงเรื่องของฟอสซิลกระดูกไดโนเสาร์ขนาดใหญ่จำนวนมากมายที่เรียงรายอยู่ในส่วนของชั้นหินค่ะ

หลุมที่ 4 “โนนสาวเอ้” ณ บริเวณนี้ พบฟอสซิลกระจายเป็นบริเวณกว้างกว่า 10 ตารางเมตร ประกอบด้วยกระดูกไดโนเสาร์ซอโรพอดขนาดใหญ่ และที่อยู่ในวัยเยาว์ นอกจากนั้นยังพบเกล็ดปลาเลปิโดเทสและกระดองเต่า

หลุมที่ 5 “ซำหญ้าคา” หลุมที่ 6 “คงเค็ง” และหลุมที่ 7 “ภูน้อย” ในบริเวณ 3 จุดนี้ มีการขุดค้นพบไดโนเสาร์ทั้งขนาดใหญ่และที่ยังเยาว์ และยังพบฟอสซิลของจระเข้ขนาดเล็กอีกด้วย

หลุมที่ 8 “หินลาดป่าชาด” ในบริเวณหลุมขุดค้นนี้ได้พบกับรอยเท้าไดโนเสาร์ มากกว่า 60 รอยใน 10 แนวทางเดิน เป็นของไดโนเสาร์พวกกินเนื้อขนาดเล็ก ซึ่งเดินด้วย 2 ขาหลัง
