การเขียนเป็น 1 ในทักษะทางภาษาอังกฤษ ที่ผู้เรียนภาษาอังกฤษต้องฝึกฝนให้มีความชำนาญ เพื่อใช้ประกอบอาชีพในอนาคต ในปัจจุบันประเทศไทยจะเข้าร่วมประชาคมเศรษฐกิจอาเซียนในปี 2558 นักศึกษาไทยจึงต้องเตรียมความพร้อมเพื่อให้ทัดเทียมกับประเทศในอาเซียน ดังตัวอย่างเช่น นักศึกษาปีที่ 4 สาขาภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการสื่อสารและภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการแปล คณะมนุษยศาสตร์และประยุกต์ศิลป์ มหาวิทยาลัยหอการค้าไทย ที่มีปัญหาในด้านทักษะการเขียน วิจัยฉบับนี้จัดทำขึ้นเพื่อสำรวจปัญหาในทักษะการเขียนและหาคำตอบว่าเหตุใดนักศึกษาเหล่านั้นถึงมีปัญหาในด้านนี้ ซึ่งพบว่านักศึกษาส่วนใหญ่มีปัญหาในด้านการเขียน essay แต่ในขณะเดียวกันพวกเขายังมีปัญหาทางด้านไวยากรณ์ภาษาอังกฤษด้วย
