ในปี ค.ศ. 1922 ได้มีบริษัทค้าเครื่องกีฬา ไปจดทะเบียนเครื่องหมายการค้าว่า “PINGPONG” ด้วยเหตุนี้กีฬานี้จึงเป็นชื่อมาเป็น “TABLE TENNIS” ไม่สามารถใช้ชื่อที่เขาจดทะเบียนได้ประการหนึ่ง และเพื่อไม่ใช่เป็นการโฆษณาสินค้าอีกประการหนึ่ง และแล้วในปี ค.ศ. 1926 จึงได้มีการประชุมก่อตั้งสหพันธ์เทเบิลเทนนิสนานาชาติ (INTERNATIONAL TABLETENNIS FEDERATION : ITTF) ขึ้นที่กรุงลอนดอนในเดือนธันวาคม ค.ศ. 1926 ภายหลังจากการได้มีการปรึกษาหารือในขั้นต้นโดย DR. GEORG LEHMANN แห่งประเทศเยอรมัน กรุงเบอร์ลิน เดือนมกราคม ค.ศ. 1926 ในปีนี้เองการแข่งขันเทเบิลเทนนิสแห่งโลกครั้งที่ 1 ก็ได้เริ่มขึ้น พร้อมกับการก่อตั้งสหพันธ์ฯ โดยมีนายอีวอร์ มองตากู เป็นประธานคนแรก ในช่วงปี ค.ศ. 1940 นี้ ยังมีการเล่นและจับไม้พอจำแนกออกเป็น 3 ลักษณะดังนี้
1. การจับไม้ เป็นการจับแบบจับมือ
2. ไม้ต้องติดยางเม็ด
3. วิธีการเล่นเป็นวิธีพื้นฐาน คือ การรับเป็นส่วนใหญ่ ยุคนี้ยังจัดได้ว่าเป็น “ยุคของยุโรป” อีกเช่นเคย
