เขื่อนศรีนครินทร์ (ชื่อเดิม เขื่อนเจ้าเณร) เป็นเขื่อนอเนกประสงค์แห่งแรกของโครงการพัฒนาลุ่มน้ำแม่กลอง สร้างขึ้น บนแม่น้ำแควใหญ่ บริเวณบ้านเจ้าเณร ตำบลท่ากระดาน อำเภอศรีสวัสดิ์ จังหวัดกาญจนบุรี นับเป็น เขื่อนแห่งที่ 8 ในจำนวน 17 แห่ง ที่การไฟฟ้าฝ่ายผลิตแห่งประเทศไทย (กฟผ.) สร้างขึ้นเพื่อ อำนวยประโยชน์ทางด้านต่างๆ ตลอดจนช่วยพัฒนาชีวิต ความเป็นอยู่ของราษฎร และส่งเสริมให้เป็น แหล่งท่องเที่ยวที่สวยงาม
เขื่อนศรีนครินทร์ก่อกำเนิดขึ้นเพื่ออำนวยประโยชน์ต่อชีวิตความเป็นอยู่ ของประชาชน และการพัฒนาประเทศ ปัจจุบันได้กลายเป็นแหล่งท่องเที่ยว และสถานที่พักผ่อนที่สำคัญแห่งหนึ่งในจังหวัดกาญจนบุรี แต่ละปีจะมีนักทัศนาจรหลั่งไหลเข้าไปเที่ยวชมอย่างมากมาย นับเป็นสถานที่เชิดหน้าชูตาของประเทศไทยอีกแห่งหนึ่ง
