หมู่บ้านปึกเตียน เดิมตั้งอยู่ในเขตตำบลหนองจอก อำเภอท่ายาง จังหวัดเพชรบุรี ต่อมาได้แยกจากตำบลหนองจอกและตั้งเป็นตำบลปึกเตียนในปี พ.ศ.2525 คำว่า “ปึกเตียน” นั้น แต่เดิมเรียกว่า “หาดตะกาด” คือเป็นพื้นที่ที่เป็นชายทะเลมีสภาพแห้งแล้ง ดินเค็ม ไม่มีต้นไม้ขึ้น มีชาวบ้านอาศัยตั้งบ้านเรือนอยู่เป็นกลุ่มเล็กๆ ซึ่งจากการที่ชาวบ้านตั้งบ้านเรือนอยู่เป็นกลุ่มเล็กๆ ในหาดตะกาด ซึ่งเป็นพื้นที่แห้งแล้งและโล่งเตียนนี้เอง จึงเป็นที่มาของชื่อหมู่บ้านปึกเตียนในเวลาต่อมา
