ปริญญานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาหาสาเหตุหลักในการสูญเสียวัสดุทั้ง 7 ประเภทในมุมมองของกลุ่มที่ปรึกษา และกลุ่มผู้รับเหมาที่มีต่อความสูญเสียวัสดุ และศึกษาหาแนวทางการป้องกันแก้ไขการสูญเสียวัสดุในโครงการอสังหาริมทรัพย์ โดยสำรวจจากกลุ่มที่ปรึกษา และกลุ่มผู้รับเหมาที่อยู่ในจังหวัดกรุงเทพมหานครและปริมณฑล ส่วนสาเหตุที่ทำให้เกิดการสูญเสียจากการศึกษามีอยู่ 6 สาเหตุ ประกอบด้วย ความสูญเสียที่เกิดจากการออกแบบ ความสูญเสียที่เกิดจากการปฏิบัติงาน ความสูญเสียที่เกิดจากแบบก่อสร้าง ความสูญเสียที่เกิดจากการวางแผนควบคุมการใช้วัสดุ ความสูญเสียที่เกิดจากสภาพอากาศ และความสูญเสียที่เกิดจากการกองเก็บและการขนย้าย
จากการศึกษาพบว่า กลุ่มที่ปรึกษาและกลุ่มผู้รับเหมานั้นมีความคิดเห็นที่ตรงกันในทุกๆสาเหตุของปัญหา ในประเภทงานปูพื้นและผนัง และงานสีอาคาร ส่วนในประเภทงานผนังก่อ งานก่อ-ฉาบผนัง งานฝ้าเพดาน งานสุขภัณฑ์ และงานประตูหน้าต่าง ทั้งสองกลุ่มมีความคิดเห็นที่แตกต่างกันไปบ้างในบางประเด็นนั้นเกิดจากลักษณะงานการทำงานที่แตกต่างกัน และประสบการณ์ในการทำงานที่มีไม่เท่ากัน ซึ่งสาเหตุที่ทำให้เกิดการสูญเสียต่อวัสดุมากที่สุดนั้นเกิดจากสาเหตุการกองเก็บและขนย้ายมีการสูญเสียคิดเป็นร้อยละ 18.88 แนวทางในการแก้ไข คือ ควรมีโรงเก็บวัสดุให้เรียบร้อย และควรให้คนงานมีความระมัดระวังในการทำงาน เพื่อลดปัญหาการสูญเสียวัสดุในงานสถาปัตยกรรมของโครงการอสังหาริมทรัพย์
