ลักษณะภูมิประเทศ :
ลักษณะ ภูมิประเทศของจังหวัดนครราชสีมาเป็นที่ราบสูงมีความสูงจากระดับน้ำทะเล ปานกลาง 200 - 300 เมตร ลักษณะดินเป็นดินร่วนปนทราย ด้านทิศตะวันตกและทิศใต้มีภูเขาและป่าเป็นแนว กั้นเขตแดน คือ ทิวเขาดงพญาเย็นและพนมดงรัก ในท้องที่อำเภอด่านขุนทด อำเภอสีคิ้ว อำเภอปากช่อง อำเภอปักธงชัย อำเภอครบุรี และอำเภอเสิงสาง และพื้นที่ดังกล่าวค่อย ๆ ลาดลงมาทางทิศเหนือตามลำน้ำมูลและสาขาสำคัญ เช่น ลำตะคอง ลำพระเพลิง ลำเชียงไกร ลำปลายมาศและลำแชะ เป็นต้น

 ลักษณะภูมิประเทศของจังหวัดนครราชสีมาสามารถแบ่งได้เป็น 4 ลักษณะ คือ
            1) บริเวณเทือกเขาและที่ราบสูงทางตอนใต้ของจังหวัด  :  มี ความสูงจากระดับน้ำทะเลมากกว่า 250 เมตร อยู่ในบริเวณอำเภอปากช่อง ปักธงชัย ครบุรี และเสิงสาง มีเทือกเขาสันกำแพงและพนมดงรักเป็นแนวยาว ตั้งแต่ส่วนต่อกับจังหวัดปราจีนบุรี นครนายกและสระบุรี ซึ่งเป็นต้นกำเนิด  ของ แม่น้ำมูล ลำแชะ ลำพระเพลิง ลำตะคอง และลำปลายมาศ เป็นต้น โดยพื้นที่ระหว่างเทือกเขาส่วนใหญ่เป็นลูกคลื่นลอนลึกและลอนตื้น คือดงพญาเย็น และดงรัก ตอนล่างของหุบเขามีความลาดชันค่อนข้างมาก ทำให้มีการชะล้าง  พังทลายของหน้าดินในบริเวณนี้ค่อนข้างสูง
            2) บริเวณที่สูงตอนกลางจังหวัด  :  มีความสูงจากระดับน้ำทะเลอยู่ระหว่าง 200 - 250 เมตร อยู่ในเขตอำเภอด่านขุนทด  อำเภอเทพารักษ์  อำเภอ พระทองคำ อำเภอสีคิ้ว ตอนล่างของอำเภอโนนไทย อำเภอขามทะเลสอ อำเภอเมือง อำเภอสูงเนิน ตอนบนของอำเภอปักธงชัย และอำเภอครบุรี อำเภอโชคชัย อำเภอหนองบุญมาก อำเภอจักราช และตอนบนของอำเภอเสิงสาง ลักษณะพื้นที่ส่วนใหญ่เป็น     ลูกคลื่นลอนตื้น ยกเว้นบริเวณใกล้เชิงเขาจะเป็นลูกคลื่นลอนลึกและมีพื้นที่บางส่วนเป็นที่ราบ ลุ่มริมฝั่งแม่น้ำ มีแม่น้ำไหลผ่านหลายสาย ได้แก่ ลำตะคอง ลำพระเพลิง ลำเชิงไกร ลำปลายมาศ ลำน้ำจะไหลช้า เพราะความต่างระดับมีน้อย ลำน้ำคดเคี้ยว บางแห่งมีร่องรอยของลำน้ำเก่าเรียกว่า "กุด" (Oxbow Lake)
            3) พื้นที่ลูกคลื่นทางตอนเหนือของจังหวัด  :  มีความสูงจากระดับน้ำทะเลประมาณ 200 เมตร อยู่ในเขตอำเภอขามสะแกแสง ตอนบนของอำเภอโนนไทย อำเภอคง ทิศตะวันตกของอำเภอ  บัว ใหญ่ อำเภอบัวลาย อำเภอสีดา อำเภอบ้านเหลื่อม อำเภอห้วยแถลง อำเภอชุมพวง อำเภอลำทะเมนชัย และ อำเภอเมืองยาง ลักษณะพื้นที่เป็นลูกคลื่นลอนตื้นที่สูงสลับที่นา บางบริเวณเป็นพื้นที่ราบลุ่มริมฝั่งแม่น้ำลำเชียงไกรและลำปลายมาศ
            4) พื้นที่ราบลุ่มทางตอนเหนือของจังหวัด  :  มี ความสูงจากระดับน้ำทะเลน้อยกว่า 200 เมตร อยู่ในเขตอำเภอบัวใหญ่ อำเภอคง อำเภอโนนสูง อำเภอประทาย และอำเภอพิมาย ลักษณะพื้นที่เป็นลูกคลื่นลอนตื้นและมีที่ราบลุ่มบริเวณริมฝั่งแม่น้ำลำสะแทด
