โรงเรียนสุรนารีวิทยา ได้รับคัดเลือกจากสำนักงานคณะกรรมการการศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐานกระทรวงศึกษาธิการ ให้เป็นโรงเรียนนำร่องผู้นำการเปลี่ยนแปลง เพื่อรองรับการกระจายอำนาจ เพื่อสนองและนำผลการปฏิรูปการศึกษาไปสู่ความสำเร็จ และตามกฎกระทรวง ลงวันที่ 8 พฤษภาคม พ.ศ. 2550

สำนักงานคณะกรรมการการศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐาน ได้พิจารณาให้เข้าร่วมโครงการโรงเรียนคู่พัฒนา ปีการศึกษา 2550 ระหว่างโรงเรียนสุรนารีวิทยา กับโรงเรียนสุรนารีวิทยา ๒ เพื่อพัฒนาโรงเรียนให้มีคุณภาพ ได้มาตรฐานเท่าเทียมกัน
โรงเรียนสุรนารีวิทยา ได้รับคิดเลือกจากกระทรวงศึกษาธิการ ให้จัดหลักสูตรโครงการห้องเรียนพิเศษวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี สำหรับการพัฒนา และส่งเสริมผู้มีความสามารถพิเศษทางวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี ระดับช่วงชั้นที่ 4 ปีการศึกษา 2551
โรงเรียนสุรนารีวิทยา ได้รับการคัดเลือกให้เป็นโรงเรียนที่มีความพร้อมในการใช้หลักสูตรแกนกลาง การศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐาน พุทธศึกราช 2551 เริ่มใช้ปีการศึกษา 2552
