วัดอ่างทองวรวิหาร วัดอ่างทอง เดิมเป็นวัดราษฎร์เล็ก ๆ 2 วัด คือวัดโพธิ์ทองและวัดโพธิ์เงิน สร้างในสมัยพระบาทสมเด็จพระจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ต่อมาใน พ.ศ.2443 พระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวเสด็จทางชลมารคได้ทอดพระเนตรเห็นวัดทั้งสองนี้จึงมีพระราชดำริให้รวมเป็นวัดเดียวกันพระราชทานว่า วัดอ่างทอง
ปัจจุบันเป็นพระอารามหลวงชั้นตรีชนิดวรวิหาร ตั้งอยู่ที่ตำบลบางแก้ว หรือข้างศาลากลางจังหวัดอ่างทอง พุทธสถานที่สำคัญได้แก่ พระอุโบสถซึ่งสร้างขึ้นใหม่ระหว่าง พ.ศ.2499 -2500 แทนอุโบสถหลังเดิมที่สร้างตั้งแต่ 2445 เป็นอาคารก่ออิฐถือปูน พระเจดีย์ทรงระฆังแปดเหลี่ยมประดับกระจกสี หมู่กุฏิทรงไทย
