เดิมชาวบ้านเรียกว่า “วัดถ้ำพระ ” แต่ต่อมา เมื่อ พ.ศ.2464 ได้มีการเปลี่ยนชื่อมาเป็น “วัดถ้ำพระพุทธ” เนื่องจากภายในมีพระพุทธรูปปางต่างๆ จำนวนมากมายที่ได้ก่อสร้างขึ้นไว้บริเวณที่หน้าถ้ำ รวมทั้งพระนอนขนาดใหญ่
