แนวทางการพัฒนางานวิจัยนี้ จะนำภาพถ่ายดิจิตอลที่ได้จากการถ่ายผลกล้วยมาทำการประมวลผลโดยใช้ Image processing มาช่วยวิเคราะห์ภาพถ่ายเพื่อให้ได้มาซึ่งคุณลักษณะรูปร่างผลกล้วยที่เหมาะสม สามารถนำไปวิเคราะห์รูปร่าง (Shape analysis) และสามารถจำแนกสายพันธุ์ของกล้วยได้โดยใช้ภาพถ่ายผลกล้วย (Classification) ดังนั้นใช้การจำแนกข้อมูลภาพมาประยุกต์ใช้ในการจำแนก สายพันธุ์ของกล้วยโดยใช้ภาพถ่ายของผลกล้วยที่รู้สายพันธุ์เพื่อสร้างตัวจำแนก (classifier) ที่สามารถใช้ในการ จำแนกภาพของผลกล้วยที่ไม่รู้สายพันธุ์ต่อไป สายพันธุ์ของกล้วยที่ใช้ในงานวิจัยนี้ มี 3 ประเภท ได้แก่ (i) กล้วยหอม, (ii) กล้วยไข่ และ (iii) กล้วยน้ำว้า
