อันดับแรก แต่ถ้าปลากินไรน้ำ ปลาจะเป็นผู้บริโภคอันดับสอง เพราะไรน้ำกินได้อะตอมมาก่อน

ถ้าผู้บริโภคชนิดใดชนิดหนึ่งมีปริมาณเปลี่ยนแปลงไปอย่างกระทันหัน ไม่ว่าจะเป็นการเพิ่มขึ้น
หรือลดลงอย่างมาก จะทำให้สมดุลในสายใยอาหารเปลี่ยนไป และส่งผลต่อสมดุลของระบบนิเวศตามมา
